Wonderful afternoon at the Back to Backs houses in Birmingham. Our guide Annette was so lovely and knowledgeable. Houses were very interesting. It's amazing how little people had in those days compared to what they have now. Well worth the visit thank you National Trust for preserving it!!

You have to pre-book tickets at least the day before as you can't get them on the door. This is an interesting museum where you can see how people lived and worked in these cramped conditions. You get a 90 minute guided tour and experience the houses over different periods of history. There are a lot of original narrow twisty stairs, dark dingy candle-lit rooms and low doorways, and if the group is full, it can feel a bit crowded, but that is part of the experience as that is how people lived here. There is a separate exhibition space and shop. There was an interesting and thought-provoking exhibition about the recently forced clearance of a housing estate in Birmingham called Druids Heath, and its impact on the residents and community.

Really amazing and interesting visit. Tiny courtyard and houses and shops saved from demolition and run preserved and managed by the National Trust. 1840s to 2000, how people lived and got by. How different life was.

Our guide Richard told us many interesting facts and stories about the residents of the back-to-back houses. We learned how people lived and worked in very small spaces. The tour takes visitors through different decades, which is reflected in the furnishings of the houses.I highly recommend the visit.

Visited Birmingham’s Back to Backs and really enjoyed an interesting and informative tour with our guide Jeff who was both knowledgeable and engaging. The history of these buildings and their occupants from the 1700’s to the present day is really fascinating and a radical change from the usual type of property we visit. would definitely recommend - if u have mobility issues the full tour is not for you but think there are others so no need to miss out.
