What a fantastic day! Champagne was our head chef and she made the experience! She made all the important stuff really fun and easy to follow and on hand to help with any baking issues. The cocktails served were tasty and very boozy! not sure that helped with the final product but as we were there to celebrate my son and his partners stag it just made for a great fun day! I would recommend anyone to go, great few hours well worth the money!

We just had the best time. So many laughs but oh my goodness, stressful but in a good way!
Champagne, the head chef, was fantastic and made a laugh so much, her sense of humour was just great.
We were very pleased with ourselves when we managed to produce a wonky hedgehog cake but know now that we’d never enter that show on the telly!
We’ll definitely return, thank you!

Katherine Forrest

Absolutely loved the event, it was so so much fun and the hen and the rest of the party loved it! The only thing I’d say that could be improved would be that we were told to get there 20 minutes early, and we weren’t greeted when we arrived and we weren’t let in until nearly the booked time so the 20 minutes was a bit pointless and frustrating when travelling from across different parts of the country. Otherwise the cake, instructions and atmosphere was great!

It was suuuch a fun evening!!! Champagne’s energy is contagious, she was very helpful and all the ingredients were already weighed and ready for use. The annoying parts are basically taken care of for you and you just have to follow the instructions. For flavour and decorations, it’s really up to you! The theme for last night was Tutti frutti and we took it quite literally, and… WE WON! We also get to take the cake home so that’s breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next few days
Overall, the competition was so fun, it’s such a good couple or group activity. I highly recommend it!

Have been to 4 classes with dance with stago and I would highly recommend! The instructors are super friendly and came over to say hello to me everytime I have gone to class which makes you comfortable straight away. I am not a dancer by any means so this is a whole new challenge for me. The beginners classes are high energy and intensity and the most fun! I can’t even describe the endorphins you feel after the class – not to mention the burn! I will keep on attending and hopefully become a better Afro beat dancer! But either way I am guaranteed a fun and intense workout! Highly recommend!

Welcoming fun energetic environment, for youngsters and mature wannabe dancers (like me) alike. Went for the 1st time last night & I absolutely loved it. The teacher broke things down beautifully for the newbies. Everyone else, too, was keen to help. Great value for money including free parking! Beautiful modern venue, too. I cannot wait for my next class.

I started going to DWS a few months ago, initially feeling shy and withdrawn while dancing with random people. However, I soon felt at home and free as Stago encouraged everyone to “just dance.” Last weekend, I met up with friends I hadn’t seen in months, and they commented that I had lost some weight. It was wonderful to hear, and I owe it to dancing with Stago for making this happen while having fun.

My daughter joined Sparkles a few months ago, and it has truly been one of the best decisions we’ve made! From the very first day, her incredible teacher, Sharney, saw her potential and encouraged her to take on more classes—and I’m so glad we did. Since then, her confidence has grown so much, she’s made wonderful new friends, and she absolutely loves going to class twice a week.

One of the things I love about Sparkles is the amazing opportunities they offer. They bring in top teachers for workshops across different dance styles, giving the students exposure to the best in the industry. They also participate in top-tier competitions, allowing the kids to challenge themselves and grow even more.

On a personal level, I can’t thank Emily, the owner, enough. I had some challenges with pickup arrangements, and she was so understanding and immediately offered a solution that was a lifesaver for me.

And of course, you can’t talk about Sparkles without mentioning Donna! She is the warmest, friendliest, and most helpful person, always greeting everyone with a big smile.

I can’t recommend Sparkles enough—it’s more than just a dance school; it’s a place where your child feels safe, supported, and part of a wonderful

My daughter danced at sparkles for 7 years then had a break (i was gutted about the break), but she was welcomed back with open arms when she decided to return this year. Returning has been a breeze.
She has loved every single class even more so, looks forward to going and can not wait for dance day to come.
My daughter has previously had so many amazing opportunities with sparkles and I look forward to what the future holds for her and the whole team.
The encouragement, learning, progression, support and general all round commitment to providing the best for each and every dancer is so reassuring to see.
If you ever want to attend a good party, then attend a sparkles one- it’s a guarantee to be the best party!
I can’t wait to get back into the competition environment too where the cheer is consistently there for each dancer-the vibe is real!

Sparkles will always hold a special place in my heart because not only are they there for my daughter, but they are there for me too.
It’s a huge family and everyone supports each other.
We already have so many memories but genuinely can not wait for what other memories we have.
Huge Thank you to Emily, Sharney, Daniel, and Donna for everything you have done and continue to do, I’m forever grateful.

Kayleigh Scicluna

My daughter has been attending Sparkles since June last year. So far she has been in a dance competition where she got on stage and did two dances with the rest of her boogie babies class, been to an awards day, a circus workshop, two pyjama days, a Halloween party and a Christmas party.

She is only three and a half and her school teacher has told me she’s one of the more quiet children in the class at nursery. So I was shocked that she had the confidence to get up on stage in front of an audience. She absolutely loved it and was over the moon with her medals.

I was sat with her after her class on Saturday and she pointed out one of her teachers and said “I really love my dance teacher, she is so nice”.

I’m hoping that as time goes on, she carries on gaining confidence and starts making friends. She comes out of every class saying she’s had fun.

Also just a quick shout out to Donna (who my little girl loves) Think we’d only attended two classes and Donna had already remembered my daughter’s name. She greets each child at reception by their name and it really makes it feel personal.

Carmen

I’ve been thinking for a while whether to write this review or not but here I am…

Me and my husband booked to attend a class at the start of December 2024. The class that we’d joined started very early on in the year so we were asked to sit and observe instead (which is what we were told new joiners do when they first join) which wasn’t an issue as our payment got transferred to the following week’s class.

Two weeks later, we then attended another class. This class commenced later on in the year so we were hoping that we’d have more of a chance to “catch up”. We don’t have any prior dancing experience so found it really difficult and we were watching other people’s footsteps the whole time. This wasn’t a problem though as they were going to start a new class on 7th January 2025 anyway so we’d planned to join that in the New Year instead. During this second class though, we did the Quickstep and had to count 1,2 etc. As I mentioned before, I have no previous dance experience so counting 1,2 and trying to remember the steps was hard! The dance teacher Martin then came over to me to demonstrate and said “can you not count 1,2? You can even count in Chinese if you want!” (I am Chinese). Whilst I understand that Martin may have been trying to add a bit of humour (as I’ve noticed he does throughout the classes), I thought this particular comment was racist and did not appreciate it being said to me infront of around 20 other couples in the room. It was humiliating.

Despite the above, I didn’t let it put me off wanting to join the new class in January. I did have a few questions just in relation to the first class and payment method so I emailed them prior to Christmas but didn’t receive a response. I was hoping that the festive period may have been impacting response times and that I might get a response prior to the new class starting on 7th January. The class started yesterday and unfortunately, I got no response…

It’s a real shame as I’ve been wanting to join a dance class for a few years but was always afraid to step out of my comfort zone until last year and until I finally convinced my husband to go with me (he actually really enjoyed the class). The dance studio is based in Solihull and we live in Tamworth so not exactly local to us but was super keen to join and make it a regular weekly thing but sadly, it was not to be.

I’ve been attending private tuition here for over eighteen months now. Due to work and other commitments, I am not the regular student I want to be (but in the near future, quite possibly!) but I have never been treated other than fantastically well by AURA, and can honestly state that their welcome, communications, standard of teaching is a joy to experience. Put simply, if you want to have fun with dance, or to take it super seriously and need a teacher to take you to that level, look no further. Martin Cutler runs a superb school and Lynne is a tremendous (and very patient) teacher!

Aura dance studio is the best place to learn your dance! We got our wedding first dance lessons from Jamie and he was very patient with us ( I have 0% dance DNA) and came up with amazing choreographs that are not only beautiful but also doable. He also taught us how to do the lifts and initially we chickened out and wondered we should have a back up move but Jamie believed in us and strongly encouraged us to try the lifts and we are so glad we did! With Jamie and Polina’s help, we managed to do the lifts like a breeze on our wedding day! Jamie also gave us lots of wedding tips including what we should tell our wedding videographer to capture our first dance, and even helped us edit our dance music! Thank you Jamie and Polina ! We had so much fun learning our dance moves with you and you helped us to create unforgettable memories for us and our wedding guests. Aura dance studio is THE place to go if you want to learn how to dance. The studio is also a perfect environment for learning how to dance with abundant space with mirrors.

I spent 5 years at Elmhurst Ballet School & it was amazing. I was taught by Mercia Hetherington & Janet Kitteridge, among others. I was there for 5 years before going on to graduate from the English National Ballet School. From there I enjoyed an wonderful career as a professional ballet dancer, dancing all over the world with ballet companies including English National Ballet, Ballet de Santiago in Chile, Bat Dor in Tel Aviv in Israel & The Adonis ballet company which was founded by Elmhurst’s very own Janet Kitteridge.
I consider myself extremely lucky & I’d simply like to thank all who made it possible.
Thank you…

We completed the first two modules of Lindy Hop level 1 with the Swing Era, and it seems like we cannot stop dancing anymore! The classes are really fun and inclusive, both teachers and dancers are extremely welcoming and I cannot wait for the next class every week! The classes also come with a free 30 minutes social/practice with dancers from all levels. Experienced people are always keen to dance with beginners and in a beginner-friendly way which is amazing and very rewarding!

I had an amazing time at the spring dance! The evening kicked off with a fun, low-pressure class that allowed us to meet everyone and feel comfortable right away. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, especially for newcomers, and it was easy to get into the spirit of the event. The music was fantastic, a dj DJ and the band were nice to dance to. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Have you always wanted to learn swing dancing, but felt a little nervous about going to your first class? Well, I was exactly the same until I started lessons with The Swing Era!
As soon as I arrived I was made to feel incredibly welcome, and within minutes I was chatting away with my fellow beginners and The Swing Era team.
Along with being superb teachers, Martyn and Suzanne are full of amazing energy and enthusiasm. You’ll learn all kinds of great swing dance moves, meet a community of ace people, and have lots of cool social events to choose from too.
I’m by no means a natural dancer, but within 18 months of beginning lessons with Martyn and Suzanne I was dancing on a bandstand in Barcelona with tourists taking pictures!
In short, I can’t recommend The Swing Era highly enough – they’ll change your life. Book your first lesson with them today 🙂

Taking up swing dance classes with The Swing Era was the best decision I made in 2017. What started out as a fun way to get fit has since developed into a passion which I have every reason to believe will last for years.

Martyn and Suzanne are friendly, supportive, encouraging and a great team!

They are also great at working with people of all levels and experience, whilst always paying attention to the individual needs of each and every person. What I really enjoy about The Swing Era classes is that each lesson is really well structured, thought through and designed to continually improve your dancing with each and every class.

Classes with The Swing Era are always the most enjoyable and stimulating time of my week, I always look forward to them and always leave smiling wishing that I could just stay there the whole day.

I can hardly express in words just how grateful I am and how lucky I feel to have discovered The Swing Era; swing dancing has truly been the most fun, rewarding and motivating thing I have done in years.

The first lesson I had with The Swing Era a year ago was so much fun, and I’ve kept going since. They give you plenty of chance to practise what you’ve learnt in the lesson and are very happy to help. The teachers are funny & give me great tips to improve on my dancing. Everyone there is friendly, too. Now they have a Performance group on a Monday night, which means we all get to learn complete Lindy routines and learn them well through repetition and perfecting them, which is fantastic. I love going dancing on a Monday night with these guys, would highly recommend!

Chantel Brooks

My son spoke to us during lockdown and said he wanted to explore street dance, honestly this took us back as he was quiet, reserved and a keen musician at the time. However as parents we wanted to support him and through recommendation reached out to Eloquent and he started attending classes. He had a slow start in terms of making new friends and feeling apart of the school but after a few weeks started to develop friends and quickly became apart of the Eloquent family. He is valued, loved and respected. We saw him grow in confidence and he was asked to sit on the youth advisory board which was a great honour.
Fast forward now five years and he is getting to leave the city to go to University but he will always be apart of this community based on the deep friendship and bond he has formed with staff, teachers and friends here.

My daughter Anayah started this dance academy almost 1 year ago and has gained so much confidence in herself. The staff are polite and amazing with the children. The dances taught are appropriate for all ages but most importantly the atmosphere, the mannerism and the people involved in this academy are great role models for the children. It’s lovely to have such a positive academy to involve young children in, that can lead them to greatness. The various competitions and showcases that they do allows the children to have further opportunities but to also network with each other. I’m proud to say my daughter is apart of the Eloquent family and I thank them for the love, support and guidance they show to her. Highly recommended dance academy!

Sending my daughter to Eloquent Praise Dance Company is the best decision I’ve ever made. After her being bullied at school she lacked confidence, self-esteem and struggled with her identity. They’ve taught her to embrace who she is, encouraged her to love her natural beauty and have empowered her to be the best version of herself. She’s gained so much knowledge and skills not just in dance but in the whole performing arts industry. I’ve also received much parental guidance & support, and fully understand their passion of serving the community which is paramount in this current climate. I will be forever grateful to the staff, dance teachers and mentors at Eloquent who have support me and my daughter this far.

Richard Wilkinson

My wife and I have been attending classes at The Dance Workshop in Moseley since January 2019. We started a Ballroom & Latin Beginners Class and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of beginning to pick up the basics of a number of dances. The somewhat surprising arrival of Covid in 2020 threatened to curtail our dance careers prematurely, (like a Week 2 Rhumba in ‘Strictly’!) until our patient and valiant tutor Sylvia took to Zoom classes to help keep us sane and fit during the various periods of lockdown! Once we were able to return to the studio we spent some time in Salsa classes, until reverting back to Ballroom and Latin with Rita, which is where we are at now. We have possibly been very lucky in that the classes we have done have been with like-minded people who have become firm friends, so dance has not only extended us personally but has also broadened our social circle! We have also attended a number of ‘masterclass’ lessons, (such as Argentine Tango), by expert, external tutors, which Rita, (the owner of The Dance Workshop), arranges from time-to-time. We look forward every week to our class and have found our dance experience to be a fun and joyous one! Give it a try! – I can’t recommend The Dance Workshop highly enough!

I have been attending The Dance Workshop for adult ballroom / Latin dance classes for several years now. Rita and co have all been extremely friendly, and I never fail to have a good time! I attend the classes alone, so it’s not essential to bring a partner, and the classes are extremely reasonably priced!

My right leg was reconstructed to fix multiple leg & knee fractures & my surgeon advised that I would never kneel again. However, my rheumatologist recommended Pilates & my journey with Rita Parker began. Rita’s Pilates classes have widened my knowledge of how my body functions as a whole & in isolation, hence my leg function is greatly improved. Rita has an precise, encyclopedic knowledge of the anatomy, the muscle groups and how they perform, so I have a better understanding of my body & this has a beneficial effect on my mental health. If you want physical well being, if you want a trusted tutor with decades of experience, if you want excellence delivered in a welcoming environment & if you want to do the best for yourself then join Rita’s Pilates class.

My daughter has used The Dance Workshop for ten years now. She loves her Ballet and Pointe Classes. The teachers have always been wonderful and their skill is proved in that my daughter has achieved very good grades in each external examination she has undertaken. I am surprised to see negative reviews about The Dance Workshop – Rita and her staff work tirelessly to provide a great learning environment for all the students.

Birmingham dance schools generally offer a wide range of dance styles to cater to diverse interests. Common offerings include ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and classical dance. Some schools also specialize in styles like salsa, belly dancing, or Indian classical dance forms. It's best to check each school’s website or contact them directly for a complete list of classes.

How do I choose the right dance school for my child?

Selecting the right school for your child involves considering several factors. Look at the teacher qualifications and their experience. Observe the school’s teaching philosophy – do they prioritize technical skill, artistic expression, or a blend of both? Also, consider the class sizes, the school’s atmosphere, and the overall learning environment. A trial class is a great way to assess suitability.

What age ranges do dance schools typically accept?

Most Birmingham dance schools offer classes for a broad age spectrum. Many start with parent-and-toddler classes for very young children, progressing to classes for elementary school age, middle school, high school, and even adult classes. The specific age cut-offs can vary significantly between schools, so it’s essential to verify directly with the school you are considering.

What are the typical costs associated with dance classes?

The cost of dance classes in Birmingham varies considerably depending on the school, the style of dance, and the level of instruction. Jazz classes may require jazz shoes and comfortable athletic wear. Hip hop classes usually permit loose-fitting clothing. Advanced classes typically require a certain level of proficiency and may require an audition or placement assessment. Check the class descriptions to understand the prerequisites.
