Goldie is an amazing vocal coach, and choosing Progress Music Academy for my lessons has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I really enjoy having lessons with her. Her feedback is always constructive and encouraging, and I’ve learned so many new techniques that have really helped my voice, singing and public speaking. I can see noticeable improvement in my singing, and I’ve even had the chance to perform at showcases, which I never thought I’d be confident enough to do before. I highly recommend Progress Music Academy to anyone looking to improve their vocal skills!

I originally booked a lesson at Progress because I wasn’t sure how lessons were going to fit into my schedule. I feel incredibly lucky because even though I picked Progress only based on my scheduling concerns, all of the staff have been incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. Goldie in particular is one of the most encouraging teachers I have ever had, and has been able to work with me after a medical condition left my voice permanently changed.

Tia is the vocal coach for my two boys. She is always very patient with them and uses her experience and technical skills to extract the best performances from them. The lessons are always fun and very enjoyable. She always provides great individual feedback from each lesson for the boys to review and work on before the next lesson. A very rewarding and beneficial experience for them every time we go. I would highly recommend Tia if you need vocal coaching lessons.

This is a great school, I was very pleased with my time here as I got to improve my skills in mixing and producing music significantly. The instructor Marc Spence was very knowledgable and very hands on with his teaching making every session feel special and tailored for your own needs and ambitions. I would recommend this place not only for people who are new to this but also for more experienced people who are maybe looking to further polish their skills or to rent out the facilities for their own use.

I just completed a beginner’s DJ course with Marc Spence at DJ Gym. It was a fantastic experience. Marc’s passion and enthusiasm for djing is infectious and he’s inspired me to continue working hard. I’m looking forward to taking the intermediate course with Marc!

Marc is such a technical artist, and his music style is so similar to mine. I’m really glad he was my mentor. He explains and shows things in such a simple way that makes everything easy to understand. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, he is always friendly and ready to help, and I’ve never seen him in a bad mood. I had a great time in this course!

I found the courses to be excellent, and my tutor (Marc Spence) to be friendly, experienced and knowledgable! Before starting my first lesson, I had no experience or knowledge of DJ’ing, and I found the beginners’ course to be really good at getting me accustomed to the equipment and comfortable with mixing! The intermediate and advanced courses then built up on that, and took me to becoming comfortable performing at very good standard. Marc was always happy to answer any questions, recommend to me best practices or better approaches to a given situation, and helped me boost my DJ’ing confidence as well as skills! I highly recommend DJ Gym!

I’ve wanted to learn how to mix for years but had been putting it off, I suppose, for fear of not being very good and looking silly. I’ve now completed both the Beginner and Intermediate course with Courtney.

Courtney teaches at your pace and is really lovely to get along with. When things don’t go to plan, she show’s you how to put it right, with no judgment. (She’s also not complained about my bad taste in music!)

Thank you Courtney for the last few months, you’ve been amazing. I’m excited to continue practicing and seeing where this hobby takes me.

If you’ve been putting it off, don’t, book in with Courtney. I guarantee you’ll love it after the first lesson.

What a fabulous place to see a concert. Went with friends tonight. It was a first time for all of us and we were in the very well designed Bradshaw Hall. The acoustics were excellent, as were the lighting and sound tech. The graduated slope ensures that you get a good view, from wherever you’re seated.
The entire building is impressive, clean and welcoming. As a disabled person with poor mobility, I think this is the most accessible venue that I’ve ever been to. It has clearly been designed to be as inclusive as possible and all parts of the building can be reached without having to negotiate any stairs. Also, the NCP car park is immediately next door to the RBC, so no long walk needed.

Last week, I took my family to see Hansel & Gretel, and wow, what an uptight and stuffy crowd! It was neither child-friendly nor cough-friendly! We had the pleasure of sitting behind an exceptionally rude and peculiar man who kept turning around to glare at my kids for coughing. Honestly, the audience had all the fun and energy of a tax audit—just a bunch of people who clearly take the opera way too seriously. I half-expected them to shush the orchestra! People like that should really consider enjoying their operas at home.

Fabulous venue, the acoustics in the hall are amazing. I look forward to coming back. It’s a very modern and minimalist space, with a large cafe, friendly staff and plenty of space for a large group. I attended for a charity event, and could not fault the place. The toilets are clean, and you have a easy access from the road.

All the tutors are encouraging, knowledgeable, friendly. Just brilliant. Cant recommend them highly enough – and there’s a performance where they show their learning. Shades are brilliant!!! I love having singing lessons with Liz here, she’s a fantastic teacher who has helped my confidence and range grow, and has helped me feel like a Disney princess (I’m nearly at the point where small woodland creatures will come and tidy for me)! I have been able to sing in front of people for the first time in years and am looking forward to doing so again. We have also looked at music theory when I lost my voice and was barely able to talk, much less sing, and I’ve had some saxophone lessons with her and Paul (another wonderful teacher), so my general musical knowledge has been greatly opened up. The other teachers I’ve met while waiting for my lessons are all super friendly and approachable, happy to chat with me and answer my random music questions, making the whole place feel really warm and welcoming. Kam has made sure my saxophone is in good shape after not having played it for a long time and done a few repairs on it and is a fun and positive presence in the shop.
Would highly recommend Shades to anyone!

I think that Shades Music is a very good place to learn from as they teach my son well. They explain my son’s mistakes and help my son fix those mistakes. The support from his teachers are very helpful and overall he enjoys to learn from them. My son’s progress has been exceeding better than before and I hope he learns more from them.

Liz is such a precise and student-centred singing teacher as well as a clearly talented singer herself.

I love how clear and creative her guidance is along with the relaxing space she manages to create in lessons – despite them being in a slightly strange room.

So my 5 stars are for Liz’s evident skills. I can’t recommend her lessons enough.

I do wish though that lessons were offered in a more welcoming environment. The lack of reception space st Shades and having to wait to be let in can make waiting for lessons to start much more awkward than it needs to be.

I highly recommend Zaid for your/your kids’ tutor. My 11-year-old son has been learning guitar with him for months.

After attending the first few lessons, I developed trust in his teaching. As a piano learner myself who have met several music tutors, I can feel that he is a seasoned and experienced teacher.

Thanks to his guidance, my son’s skills have improved significantly, and he looks forward to his lessons every week.

Personally, I also appreciate his tidy and clean teaching space; it’s very reassuring as a parent.

I’m already seeing improvements in my playing and skillet from what he taught me… Thanks Zaid.

My daughter has been attending the summer Rock School every year since Reception (now in Year 8) and absolutely loves it. She also has had 1-1 tuition, participates in the jam club is now hosted at her current school, and most recently participated in the ‘Battle of the Band’ which was great fun for everyone! The teachers are all fab, introducing the kids to genres/styles of music they may not have heard before, they ensure everyone has a role to play and it’s a great atmosphere to make new friendships.

Boys did Rock school for the third year running and enjoyed every minute again. Group size is small so they each get chance to try out different instruments, and make a new friend each time. Safe environment with music teachers who are totally child focused, flexible and fun. The quality of the show at the end of the week is always high and each child gets their chance to shine without it being pressured. Wrap around from 8 til 4pm also great in the summer for juggling work and childcare. The setting at school with a playground makes it safe and you know they are getting some fresh air.
Really happy again. Thank you all.

This captures the true essence of Kimichi School. Smiling happy pupils & staff alike. Our son has attended for the past year & has never been happier. Staff go above & beyond both inside & outside of the working day & truly have given our family nothing but support & understanding at all times. He has attended amazing life changing trips to Iceland & the Peak District which has been an accomplishment in itself. Our child had a pretty bleak future education wise prior to starting, but after a year of Kimichi we couldn’t be prouder of all that he has & will achieve in the future under their tutelage. Academic achievement aside, (which he is excelling in music may I add) & more importantly to us, we have a happy teenager who has grown in confidence who feels supported & respected! He is always treated as an individual rather than a statistic & we can not recommend Kimichi School enough. We can offer nothing but thanks & very high praise to all of the hardworking dedicated staff who go above & beyond every single day. They truly are the best.

This school supports the social and emotional needs as well as providing great education to my academically able child. Due to the experience of her previous school she was a shadow of herself when she started two years ago. Being at Kimichi her confidence has improved, she is happier, and she is thriving. I have my child back. This school is a safe, supporting and nurturing environment.

Like other recent reviews, I feel compelled to submit a review that is fair and honest. I feel that the ‘keyboard warrior’, who has a right to their own opinion, does not echo the views of other parents and pupils.

My experience and situation are incredibly similar to the other recent reviewers, and my review absolutely duplicates the common theme amongst many of the latest reviews submitted.

Understanding, encouragement, and support, combined with the magical combination of a practical and academic education. Life skills are as important as academic qualifications and this school has a lovely balance.

My Son hated school previously and spent a considerable time in and out of education establishments, he has been at Kimichi for about 18 months and I do not think he has missed one day. For the first time ever – my Son has a school that BELIEVES in him and his abilities and that makes such a difference to a child who had a low self-esteem. Kimichi are trying, above and beyond to ensure he succeeds in whatever path he should choose.

He is now happy to go on school trips (something that was not a consideration before) and now has the potential to achieve some qualifications, where the situation he was in before this seemed hopeless.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Sally and the rest of the staff and would not hesitate to recommend this school to anybody.

Kimichi is a very special place, we still can’t quite believe we found it. Put simply it has transformed our son’s understanding of what learning is all about. He is so much happier and loves the range of subjects taught, the democratic nature of the school and the collective responsibility they have to ensure the school is tidy and organised – everyone plays their part. The music education he’s receiving is superb, and the trips, residentials and projects provide a wonderful range of opportunities and experiences.
We can’t fault it, what an amazing place.

Felt compelled to review after seeing the recent negative comments below. I appreciate everybody has an opinion, but a spiteful rant does not amount to a fair and honest review and certainly doesn’t help readers form a reasonable opinion.

My experience and circumstances are incredibly similar to the recent reviewer (Martin) and I also note that there is a common theme amongst many of the reviews…. Compassion, encouragement, support, and the relief to discover such a wonderful place.
My own daughter is flourishing under the support and guidance offered by Sally and the team and we are in complete awe of the incredible lengths they will go to ensure to ensure your child is in the best place.
As parents we are so incredibly grateful for all that Kimichi School offers and would not hesitate to recommend this absolute gem of a school to anybody.
