Glad I joined. By the looks of things the machines are working pretty good. Nice location and easy to spot. Only negatives are one lift in use, one is out of order! Also would have liked hair dryers in the Mens changing rooms which would make things so helpful! Apart from that its all wonderful [/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Balal Qureshi” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJASFzyV7WWQYQLB3X2QPbneDTvTfbV9JeYTxMkb-9-NjB5HQ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba3-br100″]Pros – it’s a big gym with lots of equipment. There’s dumbbells both upstairs and downstairs, and there are loads of machines, some of which there are more than one of. It does get very busy, and at busy times, squat racks are often all taken but you can get on all the machines.

Cons – there’s only one con but it is a major con. I have never ever been to a gym with such bad etiquette. It’s very understaffed (which I understand is part of the business model) so staff never ever tell people off for this. Equipment is always all over the place because a lot of people don’t put it back and it’s often really messy with equipment that people aren’t using. The other day, I was next to a couple of lads using a barbell and some dumbbells and they literally got up and left them there.

The gym has a 10m track and a sled, sandbags etc. which is great. But unless you’re there early in the morning, you can forget about using it. It’s always full of people doing exercises that they don’t need to be on a track for, even though there’s a space for those exercises which barely has anyone there. If there’s only one person on the track, it’s easy to tell them to move, but it’s usually 4+ which makes it quite hard and staff don’t tell them either. Today, I wanted to use the track and there was someone doing bicep curls, two people doing yoga, and one person doing core exercises like sit-ups. Meanwhile there was a space next to them with mats laid out which was empty.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Ty-Ann Gabriel” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocIDRvvZxiLmJJnTKACwqMhPTOYstT6GYMI8Z1Vj2gvEaS_kFw=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]I’ve been at this gym for a couple years now and I thoroughly enjoy coming. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is enough spaces for everyone to have a good workout! The gym is well maintained however the changing rooms can sometimes be problematic but I do see an effort to improve this as the staff does regular checks. The trainers are always willing to help and offer advice. I’ve worked with Adrian and he’s absolutely wonderful. He greets everyone and is always looking of ways to improve our experience at The Gym.
I’ll encourage anyone and everyone to join 🙂 You won’t regret it![/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Deborah Dada” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWZbMlxzptkDWWhzVbOf3H2WmP-BUpyQ80EfrUgc6l1GT4vyXYK=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Great gym, lovely staff. Poor layout, old equipment that is mostly broken, 3 benches total and no free weights in the right place. I left with no pump and very frustrated. A park gym is better never going back[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

He went above and beyond to get my issue sorted as a priority when he didn’t need to get involved. The gym is a fantastic place to train, equipment is serviced regularly, nice and clean space and plenty of parking.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”S.A” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocKcDqx-C3ubCXW7G-tHR6jQ8HcXsmDJyo8lfHXrslcQbWz_9wJg=s120-c-rp-mo-ba2-br100″]I have been a part of this gym for a month now, and it is by far my favourite one! Over the years I have been members of The Gym Group Digbeth, Stechford, and Sheldon but this one is the best in comparison. It is massive and has equipped itself well with the weight areas and with the times I go in the morning, I have never had to wait for equipment. I also find the general atmosphere of this gym very nice, there’s no awkward members making lots of noise or ego lifting throwing down weights which is something that I know can feel intimidating and uncomfortable. I find the members generally respectful. I’ve pretty much used all the facilities including showers and again it has always been clean and tidy. Thank you to The Gym Kings Heath for making my re-joining the gym experience after many years a pleasant one, I am looking forward to continuing being a regular member :)[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

Some of the instructors were a bit dry during the classes but still nice. One instructor, Rob, was particularly great. He gives good feedback during exercises by making corrections on your form and provides modifications as needed. He was also very encouraging by asking if I was coming to the next fitness class or if I’d be back the next day.

The only downside of the gym is that people don’t always clean up their weights/equipment. It’s unfortunate but speaks to their character.

I would have extended my membership if I lived locally. I was only there for a month on holiday.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Tobias Lee” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocL8lO0M3qCJxoZiB8V12ASW2HHzjTAEXnSisAYwpTEDeKCJGA=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Really great gym, been going here a few months now and couldn’t ask for better equipment. Great staff members that keep the gym as clean as possible however the toilets can be a mess most of the time they may need to hire another cleaner but I guess it is what it is, I’ve been to many 24hr gyms and I recommend JD Gyms rather then the other gyms. Everyone shows each other respect and people come to this gym from all over the place sometimes from different city’s! Got to be good if they come from so far![/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Elaine Reading” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocIHbuH6pSPFyI5guKgN8g2ddvLpWvz20x8kQF05Lte2gXRfsQ=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Out of action showers and terrible customer service!
In the past 2 months the showers have been out of order atleast 3 times! The first time this happened there wasn’t even a sign informing users that the showers weren’t working. You literally found out when you went to turn them on. I complained and now they do put signage up however they’re full of false hope. On 23/12/24 the sign said the showers were out of use until 6am 24/12. I get to the gym at 0630 on 24/12 and the sign has changed to say that the showers are out of use until Boxing Day. Not acceptable!! There was no advance notice and users make plans around the gym and often go to work straight from there. It’s happening all too often now… Please sort it out JD. Alot of people also reserve their lockers by having stuff locked in there for weeks. The staff put signs up saying to remove the padlocks else they’ll be taken off in 24hrs but this always seems an empty threat as they’re always still there, meaning that people wanting to use a big locker can’t always find at busy times. Other than this and the fact that there are hardly any dumbells in the ladies gym it’s alright there but definitely room for improvement.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Barry Robinson” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjU_ZsjIcxdxM8RWlR-2cFg6YDcZJhP97S_v_32sPAUUyg47fc_FMw=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]Things are always broken. Good free weights room. Some of the equipment is separated by a floor, which can be annoying. For instance, the leg extension machine is on the yop floor, but the squat racks are on the floor below. Also, there is a tendency for broken machines to become broken more often than would be good, and stay broken longer than is ideal. On the whole, however, this is good value for money. One note is that while the gym is open 24 hours a day, the changing rooms and showers are not. They open at around 5 (no idea when they close).[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

Bunch of miserable weirdos who hate the fact you are even remotely stronger than them.

Decent kit, got everything you need, just having one bench is inconvenient though.

If you can deal with a bunch of rude broccoli head teenagers staring and you and arguing with you and trying to compete with you on anything and everything, and miserably failing, then go ahead!

It’s definitely a good gym, however the members let it down significantly! Unfortunate.[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

It’s very clean every time which is impressive. Weights area is frequently full but that’s every gym in the world anyway. At off peak times you can find a bench after a short wait[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Omar Hall” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocLDw2hUrrkVNUOg0jOPX86h0qq4g6JJV-Zk5A9bEqOwfuv29Q=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]So we’re in 2024 post covid-19 pandemic and the gym owners are clearly too cheap to put cleaning supplies. It’s a small gym with lots of daily users so benches and equipment become sweaty and dirty easily and there’s nothing to wipe them down with. Plus the cleaner only comes around midnight meaning the equipment stays dirty all day. Can’t think of many other gyms that don’t have sprays and paper towels to wipe down equipment. I wish I could attach some photos of how unclean this gym can be at times.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Jean Barkhuizen” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocLBgmRv4dX6JbyTQ5IrKo2K32bJhi4_7_HJA5upO7qo8TTf1Q=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Gym is normally really good, however the changing room doors locked at 0100 and didn’t open until 0300 with NO visible signs in the gym informing members of this. But rather hidden in the terms and conditions. So I’ve been stuck at gym waiting over an hour for the doors to open and have been late for a night shift as I had no access to my car keys. Well don’t gym group, you suck![/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Yvonne Kay” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocI8TVCglLkiKRD-Ag9Ywjva8zF6z5-J_VHgOofpbf51c6pUXg=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Pauline, who is part of the cleaning team, is first class! A special mention goes out to the staff though that make this gym ‘tick’, Charlotte, Lee, Luke and the newbie Jazz !!, you all make the fitness experience challenging and fun and I could not be without the gym in my life. The facilities are seriously lacking, with a shortage of essential equipment that makes workouts frustrating. For instance, they only have one set of 14kg dumbbells, which is almost always in use, leaving members waiting around or unable to complete their routines. With the number of registered members, it’s ridiculous that they haven’t invested in more equipment. I highly recommend avoiding a membership here—it’s just not worth the hassle.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Ash N” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjVfJvY835JlrcfsFRrMRJETkaUDiaULcOyf3Fxl7j6Iwdz4sNny=s120-c-rp-mo-ba3-br100″]My regular and only gym. This disrupts your workout.
During Peak times, it’s very difficult to find a cardio machine.

3 weeks in, and it’s getting really infuriating not being able to find the right weights. Saturday late morning, half of them were missing from the rack and nowhere to be found.
First of all, some people seem inconsiderate and don’t bother putting weights back, and despite repeated complaints as you can see in other reviews, there seems to be no action on this![/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Saeid Azimi” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocKKyrNM6L8TjUmdHWTJTeFKHbx9pSQYsSR_gH46YlZNDbsaRA=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]I recently tried this gym and, unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. Many members were very selfish with the facilities, monopolizing equipment well beyond reasonable usage times. This made it difficult for others, including myself, to complete our workouts efficiently. As an athlete with 14 years of gym experience, I found this especially frustrating since my body would cool down between exercises, impacting my performance. I do not recommend this gym for professionals or serious athletes.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Sanjay Chamdal” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjVgjqPHXsm9rYw09lmHJ2HKTAGz8IvseSGdvWPpq33QTrrcnuxZ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]Good Gym i liked that it has 2 floors cardio and downstairs Arm curls, tricep dips extensions etc.

Being three floors up gives us members a great view of the neighborhood out of the window, and it keeps us always stimulated to work harder watching the planes and cars go by along the busy coventry road. Perfect climate levels, and has almost everything you could need for your workouts. The gym itself is often very clean; with their cleaner frequently being seen working hard to get keep the place neat. It is a well equipped place whether it’s the gym equipment, or the wide range of sport supplements, and general accessories provided by the vending machines. Furthermore, the gym is equipped with advanced body composition and fitness measurement machines to know your physique better.

Whenever I come here by myself or with my gym partner (and we are within manned hours), we are welcomed with the employees being actively useful to someone, or to the gym. The Gym staff team are full of interesting and productive people, thankfully very friendly, open to support anybody in need, and holding many fitness classes of various genres throughout the week. One of the workers that really caught my eye was Faiza, who I’ve always saw working here since for almost as long as I’ve been coming to this gym over two years ago. I couldn’t name you a more proactive worker than her; always seeing her fluctuate between different duties and roles, she really is the gym’s Swiss army knife. I was left awestruck when it has been revealed to me she wasn’t the manager here; it’s what i had genuinely believed since the beginning of time.

Overall, it is a great, refreshing atmosphere: not too small, not too big, with plenty of great people coming in for their workouts. I have recommended all my friends and my family members to come join me here.

Well done, The Gym Group Sheldon.

P.S: I really like the light-work, quirky designs, notes and tips placed around the walls here.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Mia Carter” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocIYeNtJ_7OqNhaVEZbbFoQY0xn0WYDbeR_4s24gDmwSsJZjrw=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]When I come to the gym group I am always happy and never disappointed. It’s always so clean. I have spoken to one of the day cleaners Debbie who is always so polite and welcoming she does an amazing job at keeping the gym clean.
I recommend doing the classes as I enjoy them so much.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Ruki Girl” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocKhPweyqDt84NYfgEST_UmieTa9dANfstV6onncTu8KC8q0pg=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Shout out to this Gym group at Sheldon, which has better functioning machines and plenty of stretching area, for such great value. (And I’ve tried out a lot of the gyms in the local area). Faiza and Adrian are always super nice and willing to help. Now if only we could get a hip thrust/glute bridge machine and a seated leg curl machine.

Edit: Brought down the rating to 4 stars as I wish the stretching mats were cleaned more often. They get quite dirty with everyone walking over them…[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Saeed M” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJ8FpYu0XWsqvHX2Dn3r9p-fs-ASEKbWsn2NDWEEzgm-Ih9ANQ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba5-br100″]Been coming to The Gym Sheldon since it first opened. Plenty of free parking which is great.

Not used the showers much so can’t comment on those but in general very good gym. Always a few members of staff floating about. Condition of machines is decent with broken ones being repaired/replaced. Much prefer it over the Stechford one as this one has a nice layout .[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Marcin Mowinski” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJ-OqF_Um5dq6csZnVbeh_HueUTZimQn8-JV2PQN3VhP5N7cA=s120-c-rp-mo-ba2-br100″]My experience has been great! The complex is pretty new. There is a good seating area for swimmers. There is a boom in the middle of the pool which allows for a separate warm up pool in addition to the competition pool.
The UoB swimming society do a great job at putting events on. There are some fantastic swimmers within their ranks. The whole gala was friendly and competitive and us masters were made to feel welcome and a part of the community.
There is a sauna for swimmers use by the poolside. However, I did not avail of this facility.
The electronic timing and scoreboard system is amongst the best I’ve seen at any leisure centre around the country and the pool has backstroke wedges, for those who are that way inclined.
The pool and centre is basically excellent. However, it has missed out on a fifth star, as I understand due to a quirk in its construction, the whole pool is just short of 50 metres in length, meaning that it cannot host long course competitions.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Roo Hocking” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjXEhqsfM92zQ8LEuQnSGlfD2yhGO7YiXVIJRrW09FiXqsC4m748NA=s120-c-rp-mo-ba3-br100″]New, clean, well-equipped sports and fitness centre with gym, pool, sauna, fitness halls and squash courts. The facilities are great, although sometimes it helps to find a time when the students are busy as it can get pretty packed in the pool and sauna, and they are kind of in their own social world of sports club chat, which is slightly strange as a member of the public.
Fitness halls do all the Les Mills classes as well as yoga, weights conditioning and Pilates. The long opening hours are a big plus, too.
Dry changing rooms are good, wet changing rooms are fairly gross. Wet changing room also only has push button showers which go off in 5 seconds, so they obviously don’t want you to have a proper shower there.
Gym gets busy with people doing weights, so again I avoid peak times.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Ziyad” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjUtIpR8kRcjJQB8O4DGpHEgNjW5vdcyKrOy0WpP4a67ZXQJGhsz=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]Quality of equipment and cleanliness of fitness suite are great here. Generally very good facilities. I find the sauna to be quite small though considering the size of the centre. Parking for community members is useful and included, which is good. The swipe access is a bit of a pain; tapping would be so much easier. The car park should have at least a few charging spots at the very least. Membership for off peak is reasonable but can get very crowded in the evenings. Most maintenance work will happen in off peak times so you get even more restricted access than what you pay for.

Overall a good place for fitness but they could definitely up their game. Few more improvements are required to make this 5 star but sadly Birmingham fitness options are limited. They should offer NHS discounts also when you’re around the corner from the QE.

Update:
Dropped a star due to really poor customer service not on site. I’ve emailed regarding some issues (steam room closed for weeks, changing opening times) and it’s so poorly received. Huge shame.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Aaron Hobday” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWJIBOBd4PFgQJpfBGldKZ3BMWBHREJ3b888urail_I93YWrtbg=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]I’ve been a member of this gym since May having paid for a year’s membership upfront, which I now regret.  Unfortunately, my experience has been quite disappointing. The gym’s facilities are excellent, don’t get me wrong. However, it is consistently overcrowded from 4pm, which makes it very difficult to use the equipment without extended wait times. Additionally, finding an available locker is a challenge, as they are almost always fully occupied. I had high hopes when I joined, but the overcrowding and lack of access to facilities have made it difficult to fully use my membership and train effectively. I would recommend considering other options if you’re looking for a more accessible gym experience.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Lincoln Fan” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocI13Wc2iCLO-pEMLSeKbY96yexqXRE_5dEwYhmppgEEWEInPw=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Goodness, it’s been just over 4 years since I joined UoB Fitness as a community member.

While the membership fees look pricey when compared to other gyms or fitness centres, this is not just another gym or sport centre, dare I say, this is more like a sports performance centre that is open to the local community. The closest comparison is the nearby The Edgbaston Priory Club which is a lot dearer.

Even though UoB Fitness opened back in 2017, the facility has been maintained well and still feels new. It is a joy to see so much passion and energy by the friendly staff and other members every time I visit.

Laser focusing in on the activities I often do at UoB Fitness.

Difficult to find a better squash court around Birmingham than here (be great if there are social squash sessions for community members like for Badminton).

Gym space is inspirational, tidy, clean, and importantly, a safe and welcoming space unlike some other gyms after certain hours (I won’t mention any names).

The free classes that came with membership is a game changer as it allowed me out try out difference classes before deciding which one I wanted to pursue, still haven’t pluck up the courage to try out RPM even after all these years.

The 50m swimming pool is never too busy, a huge thank you to the teaching staff for helping me to level up my swimming ability and confidence to swim in open water.

I would also like to call out the App, it makes the whole booking for classes and courts seamless.

Overall, I dare say without UoB Fitness, I wouldn’t have been able to reach my fitness goal and sustain it as part of a healthy lifestyle, a huge thanks.[/su_testimonial] View all reviews
