After waiting nearly seven months for an appointment due to Tam’s high demand, I can confidently say that the wait was entirely worthwhile. My daughter, aged 3.5 years, has a speech delay, and even after just a few sessions with Tam, we have already observed significant and encouraging progress. Her ability to pick up new skills in such a short period has truly exceeded our expectations.

We are optimistic about her continued development and confident that, with Tam’s expertise and guidance, she will reach her speech and communication milestones. I am deeply grateful to Tam and her team for their professionalism, dedication, and support.

My son did speech and language with the ESTIP team. They were both very attentive, very supportive and very professional. Tam was always available to help, always supporting and reassuring us. My son was very happy in the sessions and look forward to going to his session. He made noticeable progress with speech and gain more confidence. Communication was always clear, and I appreciated the helpful tips for practicing at home. I highly recommend E-STIP to anyone looking for a compassionate and effective speech therapist.

There is a reason that Tam & Sky have back to back five star reviews. I rang desperately to get my little one in, as I could see from people’s testimonies that they were literally changing children’s lives. My son has came along amazingly while attending ESTIP. I was so anxious he was non-verbal as he didn’t even open his mouth or attempt to speak when I initially approached. Over time with patience, hard work and dedication he has began talking. Tam has taught me techniques and has set weekly tasks (which she is very strict are completed) to ensure a robust approach with both parent and therapist. I am so glad I found ESTIP when I did and travel and hour every week to ensure my son attends. My son absolutely loves both Sky and Tam and he always comes out beaming. Thank you for all the hard work you have put into Saint, it will be a bitter sweet day when we stop having to attend.

Alison is absolutely fantastic and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to any parents who are looking for a speech therapist.
Alison put my son at ease and he felt comfortable with her immediately (he is usually quite shy around new people but not with Alison).
Alison is extremely thorough and gave me a detailed overview of where my son’s speech is at, at the end of the appointment as well as providing a very detailed report.m

Alison came to see our 4 year old son for an assessment of his speech at our home in Chester. Our son enjoyed his time with Alison and remained engaged by playing lots of varied games which allowed her to assess the level of his speech while he had fun. Alison then gave us a toolkit of ways that we can help our son over the next few months so that we can help strengthen his speech as he starts reception in September. It is then up to us whether we would like another session depending on how he has progressed.

Thank you Alison for the session. We are looking forward to employing the strategies that you have suggested to help our son progress with his speech.

Emily Burke

I am a parent of a 3 year old spectrum kid who was recently in the Early Learning Program (ELP). I truly believe each staff member cares and is doing the best they can, but the ELP program itself was really disappointing. There are a few things I wish I knew before enrolling:

Staffing: seemed to be a huge issue – lots of turnover, constantly training new staff.

Classroom environment: Our son found it to be very overstimulating. There are a ton of moving pieces throughout the room- kids and aids walking around doing separate tasks, timers going off constantly, etc. It’s also supposed to be an inclusive environment where there are neurotypical peer models in the classroom but our son’s class had only 1-2 non spectrum kids. Not sure what the contributing factors were, but our son had more challenging behavior in this environment than he previously had at a typical childcare setting.

Inclusion: I would say that it’s an inclusive environment for spectrum kids with little to no behaviors. Kids who would do fairly well at a normal childcare setting would also do well in the ELP program. If your child has challenging behaviors, this is probably not the place for them. If you’re new to ELP, my advice is to have your child on multiple waitlists for ABA at different clinics around town so that you won’t be stuck with no options like we were.

Behavior management: They use physical restraint (physical holds) for aggressive behaviors. This happened to our son on multiple occasions. I understand protecting other kids/staff from aggressive behaviors, but I’m still struggling with the idea of restraining a 3 year old.

Again, truly kind people, just an incredibly disappointing experience and I want other potential ELP families to know that it may not be a magical experience for every kid.

You can’t. Should have worried about that
When my son was there. I loved it when he started (when he was 18-19 months old) in 2016 but the last year and a half it has swiftly gone down hill (new management-I refuse to call It leadership)and that’s why we pulled him out of there after 3 years. I will never again recommend this facility to another family. There are plenty of facilities in the Birmingham area that offer ABA services and they are far superior.

My 4 year old son is attending Sentre Speech & Language Therapy for a year now. There is no words to describe the amazing work they do. The team and Charnel (manager) work really hard in providing tailored tasks and learning opportunities for each child. Since starting , I have seen great improvements in his interactions and he is constantly learning new skills. He can’t get out of the car fast enough to get in and learn and play on his days at Sentre. All the staff are so knowledgeable, kind and very patient. Very aggressive lady who claims she’s the ‘owner’ accusing passers by of being paedophiles when they were having a party in the area. She has a reputation in the area for this. I certainly wouldn’t have my child in her care. Will be reporting her to Birmingham Council for slander.

Following this hostile response I will now be contacting a solicitor for deformation of character. You have not reported any matter to the police as a/ there’s nothing to report b/ you have no contact details.

Shouting ‘paedophile’ to passers by is completely unprofessional and wholly unacceptable. You should know better as a business owner. And perhaps you should repair your fence surrounding your shoddy premises.

See you in court!

They work with individuals of all ages, addressing issues ranging from articulation difficulties and language delays to voice problems and swallowing challenges. They provide therapeutic interventions and strategies to improve communication abilities and overall quality of life.

Who might need to see a speech therapist?

A wide range of individuals may benefit from speech therapy. Children experiencing difficulty speaking clearly, understanding language, or struggling with feeding are often referred. Adults may seek therapy for stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, voice disorders (like hoarseness), or difficulty swallowing. Individuals with neurological conditions or developmental disabilities may also require speech therapy services.

How do I find a qualified speech therapist in Birmingham?

Finding a suitable speech therapist involves several steps. Start by asking for recommendations from your pediatrician, doctor, or other healthcare providers. You can also search online directories maintained by professional organizations like the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) or HCPC. Check their credentials and experience, and schedule an initial consultation to assess their approach.

What should I expect during an initial consultation?

The initial consultation usually involves a thorough assessment of the individual’s communication or swallowing concerns. The therapist will gather a detailed medical history, observe their communication abilities, and may administer standardized tests. This appointment is also an opportunity to discuss treatment goals and fees. Remember to ask any questions you may have.

How long does speech therapy typically last?

The duration of speech therapy varies considerably depending on the severity of the condition, the individual’s progress, and the treatment goals. Some individuals may require only a few sessions, while others may need therapy for several months or even longer. Regular re-evaluation is conducted to adjust the treatment plan as needed.

What are the different approaches or techniques used in speech therapy?

Speech therapists utilize a variety of techniques and approaches tailored to the individual’s specific needs. These may include articulation therapy, language intervention, voice therapy, swallowing therapy, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Therapists often employ play-based activities, exercises, and visual aids to engage individuals and facilitate learning.

What is the role of family involvement in speech therapy?

Family involvement is crucial for successful outcomes in speech therapy. Parents or caregivers can reinforce therapeutic strategies at home, provide valuable insights into the individual's communication patterns, and provide ongoing support. Therapists often provide home practice activities and strategies to maximize progress. Open communication between the therapist and family is essential.
