Extremely disappointed with my experience at PDSA Aston today. I was left waiting for over an hour due to Richard, the admin staff member, failing to check my pet in. He was free when I arrived at the desk to check in but chose to ignore me and make a phone call instead of helping. I’m heavily pregnant, and this lack of consideration was appalling. During the wait, my dog Cookie urinated in the waiting area. When I mentioned it to Richard, he simply pointed to a mop, offering no further assistance.

Thankfully, a kind vet noticed my struggle and helped clean up, but the damage was done. The worst part came when I went to pay for Cookie’s medication. Laura, who was dispensing the medication at the time, asked if I’d be making a voluntary donation today. I explained I usually do donate but I couldn’t today and she proceeded to lecture me about how the vets rely on donations. I said I would pay for my dogs medication but that was all. After collecting my payment she then rudely pointed out I hadn’t donated since February. I was shocked by her passive aggressive attitude and complete lack of professionalism. I responded by informing Laura that I wouldn’t be making a voluntary donation after the appalling experience I encountered today.
I have never experienced such condescending behaviour at the PDSA before. I have made a formal complaint about my experience today, I am currently awaiting the managers response. Hopefully this will be dealt with professionally and timely.

Poorly cat needed to see vets.
They booked me in for 12:00 but was seen at 1:00pm. Very busy.
Lovely vet checked over and gave injection and medicine to take at home.
Poor cat cried all the way home that I took him to the pet hospital.
They are really great.

Serious concerns! You would actually think the people who work at this charity branch are there to help pets & their owners in need in specifically a healthcare environment.

Instead on numerous occasions there has been shocking behaviour from the receptionists – observing and witnessing being treated according to ethnicity racism.

I can specifically name the people too, how can they have their jobs in such place? it makes no sense, the way they talk to others! There are many people out there deserving of these jobs & the wrong type of abusive people are employed. The charity needs a serious look into their staff members and the impact it’s causing to pets & their owners as soon as possible.

I should have written a review 4 years ago. My kitten was DYING. I called this place. The lady told me that it’s open. I arrived ON TIME. WE HAD 10 MINS LEFT. I called them and guess what she said. She said it’s closed now? Seriously? It wasn’t closed now and I tried to negotiate with her that it was an emergency and she just hung up. Now my kitten is dead because of you. He died that day but a few hours later. She could have given tips and advice for him. But no, humans are heartless these days. I thought this was a charity organisation? Where is the empathy? Generosity? They could have called and asked if my kitten was feeling better just like the vets did. Never judge a book by its cover. Thank (hate) u ☺️
P.S. I had depression when he left me.

I can’t praise Pype Hayes Vets enough, the staff on the counter are friendly and welcoming and the very that saw Lucky (my 13 1/2) year old dog) was lovely with her. Very gentle and patient, my poor fur baby has cancer so is tender in places but wasn’t fazed in the appointment at all. We’ve been with these vets since day one or 6weeks old to be precise and wouldn’t change for anything. Also registered my lively cockapoo who they are also great with

I had an awesome experience here. All of the staff were so nice and helpful. My husband found a tiny cat at his church Sunday (6/22/25) and they were able to see our little baby. They ran tests on him and he was all clear! Dr. Thomas was very helpful and gave us great advice as well as some things to look out for. Roger is doing great so far and we are excited to see how he grows!

My sweet dog, Mr. Darcy, was experiencing severe coughs and was in a lot of pain when trying to breathe and I was able to call and get him seen immediately by the doctors. While there they took great care of us and continually checked on us and helped make our visit there as easy as possible! They took excellent care of him and helped me understand every step of the way and how to help him recover quickly.

We are grateful and truly blessed by the way they treated FurLow Friday like he was their own. FurLow is my heart and i trust VSB with my most precious heart. We had a scary situation, and almost lost one of our beloved family pets while I was in the hospital having a baby. This vet communicated with our home vet and us daily, was up front about cost, and allowed me to visit my dog post-op during his stay. This was outside of normal visiting hours, but they worked with me on my way home from the hospital. The care and compassion they showed took a huge weight off of my chest, and we still have our sweet Rocky. They sent us home with clear directions of how to care for him the following week, meds, food, etc.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham! A couple of weeks ago, my cat became seriously ill, and I was absolutely terrified. From the moment we walked through their doors, the entire team was incredibly kind, professional, and thorough.

A huge thank you to Dr. Thomas, Dr. Hoff, Daniel, Mason, and Kerry for their incredible care, compassion, and support throughout this journey. You all made such a difference, not just for my cat, but for me as well.

My precious little finch named Pearl had quite a severe issue with her foot So I tried to take her to my normal vets that have on site avian vet but they were closed on the weekend. I called around everywhere then tried White Cross Vets where I was able to make an emergency appointment for her to see the vet who has personal experience with finch.

The level of care that was shown to my sweet little girlie was amazing and ever so heartwarming, she has been prescribed with medication and even just a few days later she’s looking better, her foot is healing and it’s going the exact way the vet had said it would go. I got some really informative advice which I’ll be passing on to everyone I can, I cannot express enough just how grateful I am for the staff and reception because most people would just see a little bird no bigger than a common sparrow and just let whatever happens, happen but my finch are very very dear to me. Pearl and I are very grateful for the staff at White Cross Vets, keep being awesome ‍⬛❤️

I come in with my reactive rescue dog who is quite weary/anxious a fair bit to do socialisation appointments with the AMAZING Brogan. They have a closed off corner for anxious dogs, which is perfect as an owner to a dog who is dog reactive. Receptionists are always very understanding with her when she gets a bit stressed or reactive which makes us feel more comfortable. Brogan has helped Roxy overcome a fair bit of anxiety about the vets and Roxy absolutely adores her, we have ALWAYS felt comfortable as she sees Roxy for the sweetheart she is despite her size and that she wears a muzzle which is always lovely due to some people are scared of Roxy for that. She is an absolute honour to the team!

Extremely disappointed with the lack of compassion and professionalism. I called ahead about what I thought was an injured baby bird, and they told me to bring it in. However, when I got there, the vet confirmed the bird was not injured but then told me I had “done more bad than good” by trying to look after it, causing it distress.
To make things worse, when I explained to the receptionist that I couldn’t return the bird to its original nest, she started to argue with me and raised her voice. The experience was frustrating and upsetting. I was met with blame and aggression instead of understanding and help. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone seeking a compassionate and professional experience.

I have used this vets a number of times over the years and I am increasingly disappointed with the service. Each time I have bought one of my dogs in, I don’t feel satisfied and I seek a second opinion. I believe the vets is extremely over priced for a service that doesn’t feel like you actually have my animals vets interest at heart.
I’ve been before and immediate reaction was to remove my dogs eye but actually eye drops sorted the eye just the same!
Previously I have been and without really checking my animal, you deemed she didn’t have an infection without checking temp or really examining her. Second opinion showed that she had a rotting tooth!
Won’t be using this vets again! All they care about is money!

Do not bring your pets here!! All this place is interested in is taking your money! Look at the other reviews!! Absolutely heart broken and fuming!!

My puppy eat rat poison. I immediately called my Vet practice by Morrisons who refused to see him unless symptoms were occur. I was told to wait 1 or 2 hours and I would see any foam coming out from his mouth, vomiting or diarrhea they would then take him as emergency.
I listen to my instincts to go to Vets for Pets in Sheldon. Everyone was very friendly, took my puppy for detoxing treatment, after 1 hour they informed me that they could see a lot of poison pellets in his vomit and that I did the right thing of coming in straight away .

Only downside was not informing me on her progress as we had her in at 8am and I had to take it into my own hands as I was getting worried and called the vets at 4:10pm to see how she was. Luckily she was doing well and had no complications on her operation.

Took her home an hour and a half later after my call and they advised us on her medication and she’s been at home with no issues and is safe and happy.

I can’t recommend Ben Duquemin at Manor Vets highly enough. He’s been absolutely amazing with my elderly, unwell cat — gentle, calm, incredibly knowledgeable, and always focused on what’s best for her, not just the most expensive option.

What really stands out is his honesty and genuine care. He takes the time to explain everything clearly, answers all my (many!) questions with patience, and never rushes us. It’s such a relief to have a vet who supports both the pet and the owner, especially in stressful moments.

We were referred here from our normal vet’s, for our very poorly rabbit. We were seen by jack who was very knowledgeable and friendly who gave us advice and set a plan for the next day for senna to have investigations done. Was very patient with her even tho she was grunting and weed on the table. Ended up signing both senna and her sister up to the pet health club and moved to manor vets. I have been bringing my six cats to this veterinary surgery for over ten years, and during that time, I’ve had the privilege of meeting nearly all the vets, along with many wonderful nurses, receptionists, and other veterinary professionals. The standard of care and advice has always been exceptional and consistently of a gold standard.

My eldest cat, Rosie, has been dealing with increasingly complex health issues, which have recently become even more challenging. Throughout it all, the entire team has shown unwavering compassion, dedication, and genuine care, not just for Rosie, but for me as well.

There have been times when I’ve worried that I was asking too many questions, booking unnecessary appointments, or taking longer than my allotted time. Yet I have never once felt rushed or unwelcome. The team’s patience, empathy, and understanding have been truly remarkable.

I honestly cannot thank the entire team enough. They are an exceptional group of professionals doing deeply meaningful and compassionate work.

Overall, I’ve been happy with the vets I’ve seen at Vets for Pets in Quinton. However, the experience with the reception team has not been the same unfortunately. There’s one receptionist in particular who is very blunt on the phone. She interrupts while you’re speaking, talks over you, and comes off quite rude. She’s also not very upfront about the costs involved when asked and tends to be quite critical rather than helpful. I think some training would really help. On a more positive note, there’s another receptionist with red/ginger hair who’s usually lovely – she’s friendly and a lot more approachable. It makes a big difference.

I would never use this practice every again. They are all about the money. Pointless tests done on my cat when she would never have been able to have her tumour removed due to it’s placement but I was gaslit as I dared to question why they were doing it. It was the most horrible experience.
I wish I’d trusted my gut. Complete lack of empathy.

The worst experience I have ever had after my dog was put to sleep. This practice takes simple questions, won’t answer them, lie and call it harassment when you keep asking questions. Asked to speak to owner and I have never heard back. Unhinged and one to avoid.

I want to start my review by saying that the receptionists and nurses that we dealt with were fantastic. They were empathetic, friendly, and welcoming.

However, one of the vets we met with disappointed us considerably. We took our rabbit to the vet as she needed surgery to remove a mass. We were very anxious about this, and knew nothing about it. The vet we saw rushed through her consultation, recommended an extremely expensive surgery with zero explanation, and showed an absolute lack of empathy or compassion. We were appalled at the service we received and have now changed vets. It’s a great shame as the rest of the staff are lovely. We simply did not feel as if our pet’s best interests were at heart. So if your pet is in need, I strongly advise against visiting this practice.

Great service, I was offered an appointment the same week. They have a cat waiting area which was good. They gave me a tool so that I could give my cat the tablet easier, this really helped.

Friendly staff who were able to answer my questions.

Took my pug here suffering with discharge from his nose. Without examing dog properly at all they sent him for a referral which cost over 5,000 pounds in investigational work which was not needed at all and still had the same problem which was not resolved. We took our dog to another vets who straight away found he had 4 different types of bacterial infection cost 200 pounds problem solved. At no point would they admit they made a poor judgement an error with my pet. No offer of any refund or apology for an obvious mistake. This practice should be shut down. I’m just very fortunate I could pay this amount of money out of my own pocket a lot of people could not. This practice should be shut down or at least hold there hands up and admit a mistake was made in this case, But like a lot of these companies its just about money money money. And please don’t anyone from this practice reply to this with more lame excuses I don’t want to here it.

We registered with this vets in January, we have so far only needed the initial check up for my 8 month old.

We went in today to see about booking him in to be neutered but book in advance for October so we can sort work commitments out. We were told by the most miserable receptionist that it’s weight dependent so we can’t book as this is needed. Now I’m not stupid but I do hope that my dog is heavier in October than he is now as he is still growing so this is irrelevant at the moment, plus we know we have to pay for it so it is what it is. She then miserably said we don’t book that far in advance again that is fine but I would have expected her to offer going on a list for a call back when their diary is there.
Finally I asked about their plans to be told its weight based again and it takes time to fill in the forms. This resulted in decision made move my baby’s care elsewhere.

This would be 0 stars if I could.

They have always looked after my boy well since 2018. Friendly and reliable. If you have a pet, get them insured, because bills do get high.

There’s a lift inside as the vet is upstairs.

Have been with this vets for many years. It’s always a pleasure speaking with Harley at reception, both the vet and nurses are very knowledgeable, and experienced with cats. It’s convenient that there’s a pet shop right downstairs too. Prices are affordable and you don’t have to wait weeks to get an appointment. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

Absolutely brilliant staff, super friendly and helpful, the prices are so much lower than else where, for example we paid around £55 for what other vets quoted £85+ for. Honestly I will be making this my regular vets in the future thank you.
You helped us care for a tiny baby while we looked for a permanent foster.

My cat kitty was euthanised here a couple of weeks back.it was the hardest time in my life like losing my child, I was lost. The vet Mr.Finto (apologies if I spelt it wrong as my mind was all over the place I can’t remember) he was amazing he was so helpful, understanding and explained everything really well. They gave us a small packet with kitty’s fur which i am forever grateful for as that didn’t even cross our minds as we were all in tears at the time but now I look at her fur. We later got a card saying “sorry for your loss” which was just so nice. Thank you to everyone at lodge and keep up the good work.

The reception staff and veterinary nurses are lovely. The place looks dilapidated and cold a little like the vet’s. There appears to be no compassion especially from Catherine ( yes it is a business and it is there to make money) but she does not seem to care and this does come across when you have an appointment with her.

I have used this vets for 20 years, always loved it especially Lou on reception and Fintan they have always been phenomenal, always stayed loyal to the ones we trusted the best with our fur babies, would never have gone anywhere else until now
May 28th had to take my 14 year old dog Leo as an urgent case, we knew this was it, we knew on Tuesday night we would be parting ways! Up until then Leo was a healthy and happy old man who was loved beyond measure. Saw Katherine one of the business partners who started off ok, not a warm person but checked Leo and said we could do this that and the other but Leo had let me know his time had come so we chose what Leo wanted in letting him go. I was heartbroken and shattered all in one!
I asked one thing and that was for my babies blanket to go with him, not a big ask really BUT was told coldly ‘No, they won’t do that, I won’t lie to you’ in the depths of my grief I really would have preferred the lie, just say yes of course and then bloody throw the blanket away I would have been none the wiser and I would have been comforted but I wasn’t, I wasn’t comforted and all I have thought about since is Leo not having his blanket and being cold. May not seem like a big deal to some and may seem silly but to me this is all I could think about.
All the time whilst waiting for the phonecall to say Leo was back all I have thought about is him not having his blanket and that will never leave me now and this will only contribute to a grief that is already hard enough when you have had had to part with your little bestie that you had from the age of 5 months and now at his great age of 14 had to let him go. It has been hard walking in my house and he is not running in circles because I am back yet all I am consumed by is him not having his blanket! Thanks Katherine you did a great job there!!!
Despite saying we could have time with Leo we were quickly ushered out to pay and be on our way! Many years ago I had to have one of my dogs euthanized and being upset the way I was Fintan was so kind so warm so caring and considerate and said go home come back when you are ready and pay then. We miss your touch in the vets Fintan your compassion always radiated to others and we felt that warmth, love and
June 5th received a phone call to say my Leo was at the surgery, we had him cremated so we can scatter him in his favourite place, the beach. It was Lou who called me, I recognise her voice, always been a caring and supportive asset to the lodge but when I arrived to collect Leo only an hour or so after, the receptionist who had taken over did not know what I as talking about! Once it was cleared up I was handed a box, no sympathy or warmth very cold and matter of fact. I asked who I could speak to about my issue with the blanket but absolutely nobody available!
As I say 20 years we have used this vet but never again will I set foot in there it has lost its warmth and compassion and I am devestated!
I read through the reviews and how 2 months ago someone had their dog euthanized but they were given some fur that had been cut for them to treasure, I would have loved that but in my heartbreak would never have thought of it. Would have been a lovely touch but those that are there now are not who we were used to seeing.
It is such a sad state of affairs that someone goes into veterinary care but actually lacks a depth to them that shows owners they truly care.

The staff were very lovely. Gave us some alone time with our wonderful fur baby.
The staff were amazing in comforting us at a very sad time.
They cut us some of her fur for us to take away.
We received a beautiful card of them saying they are thinking of us all at this very sad time.

My recent experience with Oaks Veterinary Centre has been deeply concerning. The overall level of customer service felt significantly lacking, particularly regarding transparency about costs. I was surprised to discover unexpected charges after the initial consultation, leaving me feeling misled and frustrated. The communication could be greatly improved to ensure a more positive and reassuring experience for pet owners.

While I understand that veterinary care can be expensive, the lack of clear pricing and the unprofessional manner in which the issue was addressed are worrying. I believe there’s a real need for improved staff training and a stronger emphasis on open communication with clients. The focus should be on compassion and responsible pet ownership support, not judgmental remarks.

Disgusting vets absolutely vile what they tell you about your young kitten or even dog probably

Receptionist is not well trained into telling people what it will cost before they try go through with there plan.
She said nothing about the price of the service what was needed for her the only thing she said was “don’t have an animal if you don’t know how to look after it” this made me feel like I was not welcome in the building what so ever so I would like to make it clear to the manager that she is not properly qualified nor trained but the manager is just as stuck up as the receptionist. I wouldn’t even want to give 1 star but I have to just to leave a review. Absolutely disgusting costumer care and the attitude stinks on some other staff.

Absolutely vile receptionist , my mom registered my kitten yesterday for £45 , took her for a appointment due to her not being able to walk and having seizures , they took the cat in to get the bloods done without saying , also not mentioning that it was going to be £150 on top of the £45 already paid. When receiving the kitten back and going to pay , they said it would be £195 after only being told £45 , so my mom questioned the price to what the receptionist replied ‘well you shouldn’t have a cat if you can’t afford it’. Which was not my moms fault due to to her being told it was only £45 . My mom had just found out our kitten needs to be put down and the receptionist made her feel so little that the was crying in the vets , which the receptionist carried on belittling my mom, blonde women with long hair and glasses , multiple of the customers in there at the time, supported my mom and helped her through the vile words the receptionist was saying , so blooding unprofessional it’s unbelievable . Honeslty never known anyone anyone to speak so unprofessionally whilest at work, honeslty fuming my mom was treated like that, from the reviews it seems it’s not the first time the receptionist has done this. Absolute disgrace

Oaks vets is honestly the most amazing vet practice. I have been using them for 7years and they have always been efficient, prompt and available. But this last week I had to unexpectedly say goodbye to my best friend, my cat Georgie and there could not have been a more considerate and loving way to make this happen: the team let us have some good quality time to say goodbye which meant the world to me and I will cherish forever. Rebecca the main vet was so caring and considerate, reassuring and pragmatic in somehow equal measure and she kept us informed every step of the way. Whilst the loss of my cat does not get easier, I will be forever grateful to the Oaks team. This also includes Vanessa who also examined him and was so patient and kind and a special thanks to the reception team: you don’t know how much it means to us for effectively strangers to offer such kindness and respect for our loss . And Carrie in reception is fabulous, she was so patient with me when I rang with a million random questions – the Oaks team is lucky to have you all and THANK YOU again for your love of animals and the work you do every day – you really make a difference!

Somehow brought my cat back from the brink of death for which I am eternally grateful.
Given 4 stars due to the vet initially wanting to put her down and not give her a chance but once discussed and treatment started I am so happy to have been given some more time with her.
Also maybe a little expensive compared to some other vets but yet fitted her in as an emergency despite not being my regular vet and so again you have my gratitude.
Some may not like it but in my case (being autistic), I very much appreciated the frank and honest nature of the vet. Yes it’s upsetting to hear she may not live a hugely long life but I’d rather know upfront and be told straight.
Thanks from me and Pan

Edited to add that she’s still here and going strong 4 years later!

We went in with my sister’s dog, Pierre, in January with concerns as he stopped mid way during walking and required picking up. So we rushed him into the Oaks. Rebecca did not listen to a word we said more interested in palette & nasal surgery. I asked repeatedly for a CT scan and was turned down. I said to Rebecca I think it’s a slipped disk. Rebecca said “its his breed, maybe he just doesnt want to walk”. She patronised us and ignored our request. She then proceeded to twist his neck, that hard he yelped in so much pain that she was concerned that he tried to bite her, which he did not, and he is a placid dog. What vet thinks it’s a good idea to twist a dogs neck when you have come in over concerns of his spine and legs?? The vet is inhumane.
She wanted to prolong his treatment for financial gain. And why prescribe pain relief if she felt there was nothing wrong with him other than trying to get my mom to pay for nasal and palette surgery. She said repeatedly that there’s no need for a CT and said she would do bloods. We opted for bloods and was told to take the painkillers. (By the way there is no CT machine here and by refering us it would of meant turning off the money tap).

My mom went in several times with the same back legs concern. Each time she had a thing to say about anything other then his legs or getting a scan.

Now my sister’s dog’s legs aren’t working. We took him to her like this and she had the audacity to blame us.

Update:
(Never ever, ever misplace your confidence and what you know to be wrong because a person is called a “vet.” It means nothing.) After time and time again failing to do a duty of care based off of his actual symptoms.
Rebecca then had the audacity to want payment to put him down.

We rushed him to Animal Trust and they read her “glowing” blame shifting notes. However, one surgeon we were referred to saw past these and noticed we had taken him to Rebecca several times and that he in fact needed to be referred for a CT scan which she failed to do.

The surgeon told us he was not fully paralysed, which is what she wrote in her notes. (These notes are dangerous as the other vet went along with them.) The surgeon said he can still feel his feet and can put small amount of weight on them. He said after seeing the CT scan – with 99.9% certainty that not only was the surgery doable, he will more than likely pull through. Contrary to what the other post-Rebecca vet had said. They read this vicious woman’s notes. Where as the surgeon paid no notice to them. We were told if he had gone to him in January when we had intially saw Rebecca Rowe Pierre would have been CT scanned and treated before this point. The operation was more complex because Rebecca failed to do her job. Any dog that cannot walk for any period of time, whether on and off, or whatever breed should be scanned. The judgement call she made was based on his breed was disgusting.

Rebecca Rowe loves throwing around the word neglectful, look at other reviews but she is the neglectful one.

She showed contempt for my sister’s dog and showed obvious signs that she is against French bulldogs. Her examinations are poor, and she is all up for taking the money. Do not come here.

Please, please take your animal to an actual pet hospital where they can be seen by a specialist. Rebecca stalled on any proper diagnosis and failed to refer for scans wasted precious time-sensivitive time only then to blame and go straight to euthanizer because she herself is not trained for the specifics. Or cannot do the simplest of scans. She judged our beautiful friend Pierre blindly – no scan and poor examinations and nearly cost him his life. She fundamentally failed her duty of care.
I believe she is sadistic and heartless as long as she is the one getting the money to put your dog down that is still a win for her.

Update:
Pierre has had surgery and is on the mend. Note to self: trust your instincts. It didn’t feel right but she is a vet, so we thought she must know what she is doing. Absolutely not. Trust yourself. And please do not come here.

Frequently Asked Questions about Veterinarians in Birmingham

What types of animals do veterinarians in Birmingham typically treat?

Most veterinarians in Birmingham primarily treat domestic animals such as dogs, cats, and small mammals like rabbits and guinea pigs. However, some clinics also offer care for exotic animals like birds, reptiles, and even pocket pets. It’s best to confirm beforehand if a clinic specializes in the type of animal you own.

How do I choose a good veterinarian in Birmingham?

Selecting a good veterinarian involves several considerations. Check online reviews and ask for recommendations from friends, family, or local pet groomers. Look for a clinic that is clean, well-equipped, and staffed by qualified professionals. Consider the clinic's hours of operation and its ability to handle emergency situations.

What are the common services offered by veterinary clinics?

Typical veterinary clinic services include routine checkups, vaccinations, dental care, surgery, diagnostic testing (such as blood work and X-rays), and parasite prevention. Some clinics also offer specialized services like behavioral consultations, rehabilitation therapy, and nutritional counseling.

What is a wellness exam and why is it important?

A wellness exam is a comprehensive checkup designed to assess your pet’s overall health and detect potential problems early. These exams typically include a physical examination, discussion of your pet's lifestyle and diet, and sometimes basic diagnostic tests. Regular wellness exams are crucial for preventive care and maintaining your pet’s quality of life.

What should I expect during my pet's first visit to a new veterinarian?

During your pet's first visit, be prepared to provide a detailed medical history, including any previous illnesses, surgeries, or medications. The veterinarian will perform a thorough physical examination and may recommend diagnostic tests to establish a baseline for future comparisons. Bring any relevant medical records from previous veterinarians, if available.

How are veterinary costs typically structured?

Veterinary costs can vary significantly depending on the type of service required. Clinics may charge on a fee-per-service basis, or offer wellness plans with bundled services at a discounted rate. Emergency care and specialized procedures generally have higher costs. Always ask for a cost estimate before proceeding with any treatment.

What are common signs that my pet needs to see a veterinarian?

Several signs indicate your pet might need to see a veterinarian. These include loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, excessive scratching, and any unusual behavior. Don’t hesitate to seek professional advice if you have any concerns about your pet’s health.

What should I do in case of a veterinary emergency?

In case of a veterinary emergency, such as a severe injury or sudden illness, seek immediate care from an emergency veterinary clinic. Know the location of the closest emergency clinic and its contact information. Describe the situation clearly to the clinic staff and follow their instructions. Prompt attention can significantly improve the chances of a positive outcome.

Are there any mobile veterinary services available in Birmingham?

Yes, some mobile veterinary services operate in the Birmingham area. These services provide convenient care for pets who are unable to travel to a traditional clinic, perhaps due to age, illness, or anxiety. Mobile vets can perform routine checkups, vaccinations, and some minor procedures in the comfort of your home.

How do I handle a pet who is anxious or fearful at the veterinarian's office?

Pets experiencing anxiety at the vet’s office are not uncommon. Try to remain calm yourself, as your pet can sense your emotions. Ask the clinic about anxiety-reducing strategies, such as pheromone diffusers, calming treats, or pre-appointment medication. Some clinics offer separate waiting areas or shorter appointment durations to minimize stress.
