Went to a bottomless brunch for a friends birthday and it was amazing! Firstly the staff were so friendly and very attentive definitely getting our moneys worth with cocktails! The cocktails were so good and the food was honestly such a stand out – really delicious and super veggie/ vegan friendly. Definitely the best bottomless brunch i’ve been too yet – great value for money!!

This was my first time visiting the Birmingham branch of Tamatanga. I can’t lie, it was a bit disappointing. The food was perfect, same as any other Tamatanga I visited which is always great. Food came out fast and I can’t fault that at all.

My issue was more of the service. The other branches i’ve been to the staff have gone above and beyond. Checking in, seeing if we needed top ups of drinks, if foods okay etc. but the birmingham staff were more bothered having little gossip session than being attentive to tables. I can’t lie this had put me off visiting here again.

Roshni Kamnani

Offers plenty of vegetarian choices from thalis to curry bowls and biryanis. There’s a separate vegan menu with clearly labelled options, plus gluten-free dishes too. Great for all dietary needs!

This place has become a total go-to for me, I’ve been more than 20 times now, and it’s honestly consistently amazing. The service is super quick and always friendly, and the food usually comes out within minutes of ordering, which is perfect when you’re hungry and don’t want to wait around.

The food is so, so tasty every single time. I’ve tried loads of different things on the menu and it’s always spot on. Plus, there are lots of great vegetarian options, which I really appreciate, it’s never just one token veggie dish, there’s actually a good variety to choose from.

It’s rare to find a place where the quality and flavour stay so consistent, no matter how many times you go. I always leave happy and already thinking about what I’ll try next time.

Overall a pleasant experience. Good service, good vibes.

We had nee-ma’s chicken curry which was on the bland side and I’d rate it 2/5. The green lamb curry is decent and I’d rate it 3/5.

Naan portion are decent – so perhaps a single portion is enough for two people.

Went to Tamatanga with friends and honestly loved it! We got a table straight away which was a nice surprise, and the staff were so lovely and quick.

The food… wow. Mind-blowing good! We tried the Boti Chicken (finger licking amazing), Gunpowder Paneer, Bang Bang Chicken, Black Lentil Dal Bowl and the Chilli Garlic Chicken Bowl. The bowls come with naan or rice (you get to choose) and everything was just packed with flavour.

Can’t post food pics because we were too busy eating all the delicious food but trust me, it’s a must-try if you want proper tasty Indian food in a fun, chilled vibe. Can’t wait to go back!

Really busy, too loud. We couldn’t hear each other across the table. Curries were average, mixed grill was good but you’ll need to order a sauce which is about 7 or 8 quid. We’re trying the Old Mosely Arms next.

Foods great here particularly the mixed grill and naan bread. The curry was also good !Service was great and prices were reasonable what I would expect to pay.Its a nice setting too.My only real criticism and the reason for 4 stars was the toilets were In need of a good clean(that’s being polite).

Food is delish. The team there is friendly. Value for money. Can get quite busy, which is a testament to the great food. The only thing is when we were there, the inside of the restaurant got progressively warm and stuffy as the evening went on. It’s understandable as the kitchen was working hard, but at times, it did feel like I was sitting inside a sealed room.

Dont get me wrong, I like this place. The service and food are amazing. Very friendly staff, go out of their way for you. The only reason I have given a 4 star is the decor. When you go to a restaurant, even if it’s local, the decor should be on par. The cushions on the chairs need refurbishing or replacing. They have stains on them. It’s too dark inside. The lovely wooden tables and beams could do with a little touch of brightness. It seems you are going for an aged look, but the place could do with some refurbishment all around. I may be the only one who feels this way, but for me, nowadays, going out has to be worth it otherwise…

The staff were amazing, very kind and welcoming. Very professional. Decor was very nice, unfortunately the food was not amazing. It was nice. Just disappointing for the price. I was expecting some amazing Indian cuisine experience. Unfortunately we were disappointed. It had been a very nice experience, however sadly we would not return.

Absolutely blew me away! As far as Indian fine dining goes, this place is a total winner.

The food was just incredible. Seriously, every dish was a hit, but the Gosht Yakhni Biryani was out of this world – so fragrant and the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The Prawn Shan E Nisha was packed with flavour, and the Lobster Panchphoran? Pure luxury and perfectly spiced.
Beyond the fantastic food, the whole dining experience was amazing. The atmosphere was spot-on, and the service was top-notch. And a massive shoutout to Shubham! That espresso martini he made me was hands down the best I’ve ever had.

If you’re looking for an Indian meal that’s a cut above the rest, Asha’s is a must-visit. You won’t be disappointed!

Nice place, atmosphere was good, service & staff was very cordial and good. Nice deco inside, well spaced.
It’s a pricey one though.
Food was good, surprisingly despite eating non spicy Malai Paneer & roti faced GERD, not sure why.
Qnty is good.
Do suggest to others to try their cuisines.

Had the executive lunch.
The mint chutney, rice, panner all were awesome

Service is also wonderful and top notch.

Only thing they should have is one veg maharashtrian dish x 365 days. That would be the right tribute to your homeland and letting the world experiance it.

The decor of the restaurant is undeniably impressive, with plenty of celebrity photos lining the walls that add to its charm. I visited with a friend, and we both agreed that the lady who served us was one of the most strikingly beautiful people we’ve ever seen.

The food was good, but not exceptional—certainly not enough to justify the price. For two curries, one naan, one rice, poppadoms and two drinks, the bill came to nearly £100. There are nearby places like Shababs that offer more flavour at half the price, which really puts things into perspective.

Service was mixed. The poppadoms arrived quickly, but the mains followed before we’d even finished them, making the experience feel rushed. We had to move everything around to make space, which disrupted the flow of the meal. After finishing, we had quite a bit of food left, but no one asked if we wanted to take it home—it was simply cleared away. We then had to wait quite a while to get the bill.

Overall, while it’s better than many takeaways and the setting is lovely, I don’t think I’ll return. The decor is really the only standout feature compared to other Indian restaurants I’ve tried.

I’ve visited Mowgli in various cities and always enjoyed the vibrant energy and personal touch that usually comes with the experience. This particular visit, however, felt a little flat by comparison.
The food, as expected, was great—full of bold flavours and well-executed, especially the Chaat Bombs, which remain a favourite. The dishes were explained well by the person who brought them over, and her warm manner was appreciated.
Unfortunately, the service leading up to that point didn’t quite hit the mark. I waited nearly 10 minutes before even being acknowledged, and the initial greeting was very general—no real welcome, no check on whether I’d visited before, or any recommendations, which is something I’ve appreciated at other branches.
While I waited, two staff members were largely preoccupied with chatting by the till and didn’t appear attentive to guests. The only one making a noticeable effort to check in with diners was a gentleman I believe was the manager—kudos to him for being present and approachable.
Ordering dessert and settling the bill also took longer than expected, and mentioning the Mowgli loyalty code felt like an inconvenience to the server, rather than something welcomed or easily handled.
Perhaps solo diners don’t receive the same attention, which is a shame, because the food really does deserve better surroundings and service to match.
Still a fan of the brand, but I’d hope this location steps up to the standard set by others

Came for mine and my boyfriend’s anniversary, the food was incredible. So much flavour I was amazed by the quality considering how fairly priced this place is! My server was Warda, she was absolutely amazing. Provided very friendly service and made us feel right at home. She was very kind and her service was very fast, she catered to both of our needs ensuring we had the best customer experience possible. Her recommendations of the menu were amazing and she recommended the best dishes. I would rate this place 10/10. We will definitely be coming back here!

This restaurant is amazing – we had booked as a couple celebrating out 25year silver wedding anniversary- the service was superb and we were given a complimentary drink and a cook book as a gift which was totally a surprise and very much appreciated. Along with the food being the best Indian food we have ever tasted – we had the sharing menu and it is fair to say we will return again in the near future. The atmosphere and ambience was perfect and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time . Highly recommend this magnificent restaurant!!

We were a party of 9 for a hen do, and I’ve been to Mowgli before so I know food comes out when it’s ready but for some reason all our starters then our mains came out at the same time?! We were waiting over an hour for our starters to arrive and service was really slow, there were times I tried to get someone’s attention for around 10 minutes. The servers were polite but this did have an impact on our day as we ended up being there much longer than anticipated. The food was incredible but the service really did let it down unfortunately.

Good place to go with. We actually stop by because of the decoration. Once we stepped in, it’s just a couple seconds then a staff just took us to a seat. We did ordered 3 things in the menu and a roti. The food portion is not that big (quite small) but it’s packed and that’s made us really full. We ordered a chai sling and cinnamon cola that’s absolutely amazing! Overall, it’s a good vibes, good music, good food and really caring staff but there wasn’t enough staff compare to customers on the day we were in, as a staff missing our drink twice but overall it’s good.

This restaurant is decorated impeccably, the staff are very warm and friendly. The staff member that served us was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. My daughter wanted to sit on the swing table, which was a good novelty, but you do get stared at a lot by passers-by.
The food was quick to come out and it was served in tiffin trays. The portion size was good, and we really enjoyed the twist of traditional Indian food.

Excellent desi pub within walking distance of Birmingham New St. We were passing through and had a couple of hours so went to the Hen and Chickens and really pleased we did – provides the great combination of real ale, curry and football on Sky! Food and service excellent, definitely recommend the mixed grill (small more than enough for 2 people). Will visit again when in Birmingham.

The Hen & Chickens is a popular established tradition pub with a modern twist. It has a very well deserved popular reputation of serving a good selection of quality India food. The venue and atmosphere is very pleasant. Located very close to the city centre the prices are higher than simular tyres of venue outside the area. IMO definitely a must visit if you are in Birmingham City. Enjoy

Been to this pub a few times over the years for a mixed grill and never been disappointed with the food. It’s a little on the pricey side because of the location, but always serves up a decent mixi.

Beer selection is great too. Lady behind the bar this time was very helpful and recommended a beer I’d not tried before. Gave me a sample and she was right, it was lovely so I had that as my second pint. Fantastic service.

Although the beer choices here were somewhat limited compared to other places, the food did not disappoint. It is a little bit less pub-like and seems more semi-formalish.

The food portions were very generous and there was nothing we complained about the taste. Overall a good experience, and the service was very attentive.

It was an excellent choice to eat here as the food was very delicious, the service was perfect and we had to taste new things for the first time. The atmosphere, however, is a bit of a problem since the restaurant is so small. I’m not tall but yet I felt uncomfortable in the tiny middle table. Albeit that, everything was a delight.

Felt right at home. Sweet people, sweet service. When we said, “just feed us” they did and we weren’t disappointed! The deconstructed samosa chaat was the bomb as was the yellow dhal…highly recommend. Nice chill sound track, too.

Solid Indian fare – serving full dishes and Tapas small plates, which I found to be quite large! I would have liked a few more peas and cheese in the Mutter Paneer but only because the sauce was so beautifully tasty, and I wanted it to take longer to eat! The Roti selections were interesting and good and the Yellow Dhal was totally authentic.
I didn’t need the ‘third plate’ which was recommended, maybe because I was disappointed by the lack of pakora and far too much Chaat. My mistake really.
The Mango IPA beer complemented the food perfectly.

Came here for dinner during my stay on a work trip and the service and food was excellent. Very attentive and helpful waiters. The curries and the naan were excellent, also tried the puris for starters. Awesome expirience throughout! Can recommend wholeheartedly.

Excellent all round. The restaurant is a bit of a hidden gem, tucked in behind the bar out of view from the street.

We booked late after the cricket and the host couldn’t have been more accommodating.

The food was brilliant, everything we ordered was one of the best examples of each dish I’ve ever had.

Would be good to see a few local cask & keg beers on the bar but still an ok range.

Will seek it out again when in Birmingham next.

Incredible! My first time in Birmingham and without a doubt the best Indian I’ve been to and I’ve been to a few. More refined, complex, elegant and flavourful than your typical curry house. This is really good food! I just went with the waitress’ advice and was not disappointed. Really attentive and warm people, highly recommend! The lamb chops, cauliflower dish and lamb curry I had were fantastic.

I love that it’s a place to be discovered. It adds to the experience.
The welcome was great. Relaxed, informative and attentive.
The food is of the highest quality and worthy of the reviews it has received.
My only regret is that I left it so long before coming here!
A great dining experience.

Looks can be deceiving with this establishment, at first I thought, have I got the right place? But then you wonder into the pub and peek through the curtain to uncover this little hidden gem. I went with the recommendations of the waiter with the lamb curry with some chilli garlic naan, the flavour booming of cumin from that curry was insane. Opted for some meat samosas with that coriander sauce which amazing. I’ve never a sweet tooth in an Indian but the waiter convinced me to go authentic Indian dishes with this sweet and light dish smothered in a syrup. Overall a very tasty meal and when I’m back in Birmingham again, I will definitely frequent this place just to work my way down this tapas style menu. I wish I could have eaten more but that stuffed me. Thank you for a lovely meal.
The old saying, never judge a book by its cover never rung so true !

The best indian food in Birmingham!? I think so! My wife is indian and we’ve tried many indian restaurants in Birmingham and this place was super impressive.

Food was delicious, beautifully presented, innovative and tasty, and great portions. Reasonable prices – we paid £100 for two with starters and main – and definitely felt worth it.

Blown away. Always passed by this restaurant thinking it’s a toned down Indian restaurant serving tiny portions of Indian food, but oh boy, was I blown away.

I’ve attached my bill, I’d warn you though to get the prawns and lamb chops from the mains section instead of starters/appetisers if you’re a party of 3 or more, perhaps a platter. Paneer flavour was amazing, my partner and I specially loved the prawns tandoori and lamb chops. Tender and juicy, well cooked, great use of ghee, just blown away. Shami kebab was alright.

Mains were insanely good, no jokes. The madras sea bream and king prawns biryani blew us away completely. Simple flavours yet seemingly so complex. Nothing overwhelming but really was a taste to behold. Get them without thinking again.

Absolutely lovely hospitality, didn’t get the names but we were very well looked after. Great staff. Will definitely come again.

Alas, all good reviews have to come to a bad end. Pina colada was a bit of a let down but not really disappointing. Its just the way I am. I’m extremely critical of my PC’s. Sorry to mention but you can probably pop into L*s-Igu*nas next door for it with a 1+1 offer.

Absolutely loved our experience at Zindiya in Moseley! The moment we stepped in, it brought back memories of Delhi — the ambiance, the aroma, everything felt so authentic and vibrant.

We tried a variety of dishes, from the gunpowder aloo chaat to chole bhature, and each one was a standout in its own right — full of flavour, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. A special shoutout to the samosa filled with gajar halwa for dessert — such a creative and delicious twist that ended our meal on a high note!

A big thank you to Shivam and Divyansha, who served us with such warmth and humility. Their friendly nature and attentive service truly made our visit memorable.

Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for real Indian flavours and heartfelt hospitality. Can’t wait to visit again!

We visited Zindiya as a large group for a family birthday, and had a wonderful experience. The menu is as vibrant and exciting as the décor, which takes you right back to the colourful, bustling streets of India. We had plenty to choose from, with a great choice of vegetarian options.
Something that stood out was the quality of the cocktails, we loved the Indian twist of flavours, lovely, unusual soft drinks too.
Service was great, and the friendly owner came over to chat to us too and made sure we were happy with everything.
We appreciated the patience of the staff as we stayed after closing time to cut a birthday cake with family, and have more drinks, which was nice not to feel pressured to hurry.
We are not familiar with Moseley, but had heard good things about the restaurant, so were keen to travel further to visit – we were really impressed and hope to return soon.

Decent looking restaurant, tried the lamb shank and keema chilli naan. I had to send the shank back to make it more spicy as I couldn’t taste anything. The naan was really good but the shank was disappointing even after making it more spicy. The mocktails were terrible, hardly any flavour and I wouldn’t really call them

Food was very nice with good service. As with North Indian/Bengal cuisine there is a high emphasis on spice which can be lowered on request. On time of this review the restaurant was under work knocking a few points for atmosphere.

Overall this is worth a try if you want to try Traditional Bengal Cusine.

A tasty restaurant with plenty of options and very large portions at a very reasonable cost. The six of us were staying locally so an easy stroll away. The starters were excellent and very plentiful. The only slight issue is that the restaurant does not have an alcohol licence so you have bring your own if you want to accompany your meal with that.

Frequently Asked Questions about Indian Restaurants in Birmingham

What makes Birmingham’s Indian restaurant scene unique?

Birmingham boasts a truly exceptional Indian restaurant scene. The city's historical connection to India, particularly through its large South Asian community, has fostered a deep appreciation for authentic cuisine and innovative takes on traditional dishes. You'll find everything from classic curry houses to modern restaurants experimenting with fusion cooking, reflecting a rich and diverse culinary landscape.

How can I find authentic Indian food in Birmingham?

Finding authentic Indian food requires some exploration. Look for restaurants with names that are primarily Hindi or Urdu, suggesting a focus on traditional flavors. Reading reviews carefully, especially those from diners familiar with Indian cuisine, can also be incredibly helpful. Seeking recommendations from the local South Asian community is another excellent strategy.

What is Balti cuisine, and where can I find it in Birmingham?

Balti cuisine is a unique style of Indian cooking that originated in Birmingham itself! It involves cooking dishes in a special, thin-walled steel pan called a "balti." Birmingham is widely considered the birthplace of Balti cuisine, so you’ll find a wide variety of Balti restaurants throughout the city. Exploring areas with a high concentration of Indian restaurants, such as Balsall Heath, is a good place to start.

What are some common dishes I should try?

There's a huge variety to choose from, but some must-try dishes include Chicken Tikka Masala (often said to have originated in Birmingham), Lamb Rogan Josh, Saag Paneer (a vegetarian favorite), and Biryani. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations from the restaurant staff; they're often happy to suggest dishes based on your preferences.

Are there vegetarian and vegan options available?

Absolutely! Most Indian restaurants in Birmingham offer a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options. Many traditional dishes, such as Saag Paneer, Dal Makhani, and Aloo Gobi, are naturally vegetarian. Be sure to inquire about the ingredients used to ensure the dishes meet your dietary requirements. Many restaurants can also adapt dishes to be vegan.

What does it mean when a dish is labeled "medium" or "hot"?

The spice level labeling in Indian restaurants can be subjective. "Mild" usually means little to no heat. "Medium" indicates a moderate level of spice, while "Hot" signifies a significant amount of chili. Always be cautious, especially if you’re not accustomed to spicy food. You can often request a milder version of a dish.

Are there restaurants that offer regional Indian cuisine?

While many Birmingham restaurants offer familiar favorites, you can also find establishments specializing in regional Indian cuisine. This could include dishes from the South Indian states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu, or from regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan. These restaurants often showcase the diversity of Indian culinary traditions.

What are some good areas to find Indian restaurants?

Several areas in Birmingham have a high concentration of Indian restaurants. Balsall Heath is particularly renowned for its Balti houses. Sparkbrook and Nechells also offer a diverse range of Indian eateries. The city center and surrounding areas also have numerous options, catering to a wide range of tastes and budgets. Researching specific neighborhoods can help you find what you’re looking for.

What are some popular drinks to accompany Indian food?

Several drinks complement Indian cuisine well. Popular choices include lassi (a yogurt-based drink), mango juice, and Indian tea (chai). Some restaurants also offer a selection of Indian beers. Many also provide soft drinks and juices.

How do I handle dietary restrictions or allergies?

Communicating any dietary restrictions or allergies is vital. Inform the restaurant staff about your needs when ordering. Don't hesitate to ask questions about ingredients and preparation methods. Most Indian restaurants are accommodating and will do their best to provide safe and delicious options. Clear communication is key to a positive dining experience.
