Mum and Dad stayed at the Kenrick centre in the emergency assessment unit from August 2024 to end of October 2024.Then Mum moved to the residential unit when Dad was admitted to hospital until they were reunited in different care home together in March 2025.
The care on both units was very good and staff from the emergency assessment unit continued to interact with Mum when she came downstairs to the residential unit which was quite lovely for her.Mum settled well and had her favourite staff whom she trusted which was a great comfort for her.
Mum seemed to embrace the activities and enjoyed the company. She kept herself busy walking around the large unit and staff kept her occupied as she missed my Dad and was adjusting to not being a full time carer for my Dad.She secretly enjoyed having her food cooked for her and being able to rest.
I thought that the Kenrick centre was 95% perfect for Mum and wished that she could stay there permanently but they are not excepting any more residents.
The staff are lovely at the Kenrick centre and Mum was very emotional when she left.
I am very pleased with the care and support received and am sad that my parents are not able to stay there.I felt reassured that they were safe for the first time in a decade.
The surrounding park and gardens are beautiful and we were looking forward to exploring them in the good weather.
Parking can be a challenge during office hours but that is the same anywhere.
Thank you.

Janey Jones

My mother stayed on the second floor for an enhanced assessement. Residents are just in their rooms with a complete lack of stimuli. It just feels like a large waiting room until a decision is made what the next steps are. They are not treated as residents (albeit even if they are temporary) and just someone undergoing an assessment. I think this is not helpful for residents who have left hospital frightened. They are not met with warmth or any sense of normality. Residents pacing up and down the corridors with sheer boredom. The experience can be very disruptive on an individual’s well-being. Staff at times I found impatient and only want compliant residents otherwise they are out.

I struggled for many years to find a quality day placement for my son, then on starting at Nevin day centre, i have found they have exceeded all expectations.
All staff members and managers are kind, caring, compassionate, beautiful people who engage with my son with the utmost respect and kindness. I see every day they are passionate about the work they do as i watch how my sons confidence, happiness as well as all other levels of personal growth have come so far, since having these wonderful people in his life. When my son started there, I was most impressed at the high level of staff training, and the fact these guys had really done their homework, when it comes to learning about my sons background and needs. This enabled them to start and progress very smoothly with my sons care. My son and i are truly blessed to know these wonderful people who he calls by their names but refers to as his friends. ♥️ i feel so happy for him when i see his face light up every time he sees them.

Very impatient, loud and just straight up rude to residents. The number of times I’d find pills just thrown on the floor is atrocious. Would find residents waiting for an hour just to receive their breakfast. If residents were confused they’d get screamed at. Also heard workers trash talking past residents infront of current residents which is immoral. Do not recommend at all. Don’t be fooled by old 5* reviews from 8 years ago. Alot has changed!

My mum has been at this lovely care home for two years. We visited several homes before we found Victoria Lodge. It ticks all the boxes. The atmosphere, as soon as you walk in, is welcoming and makes you feel comfortable. The home is very clean and smells fresh. The management team are very efficient and approachable – there is an open door policy so you can speak to them at any time if you need to. The staff are friendly and caring. The food is excellent, providing favourite meals for an older clientele. There are lots of activities for residents to enjoy if they want to both inside and outside the home. More importantly, my mum regards Victoria Lodge as her home and is very happy there. I have no hesitation in recommending Victoria Lodge Care Home to my friends – and to anyone else who asks.

My only advice to anyone looking for a care home in the Birmingham area is go check out Victoria Lodge in Acocks Green. Frequently Asked Questions about Elderly Day Centers in Birmingham

What exactly is an elderly day center?

An elderly day center is a community-based program that provides care and support for older adults who need assistance but don't require full-time residential care. They offer a structured environment with social activities, meals, and health services, allowing seniors to remain active and engaged while providing respite for their caregivers. It’s a place for socialization and maintaining a sense of independence.

Who typically benefits from attending an elderly day center?

Elderly day centers benefit a wide range of individuals. They’re particularly helpful for seniors experiencing cognitive decline (like Alzheimer's or dementia), physical limitations, social isolation, or mental health challenges. They also provide respite for family caregivers who need a break from their caregiving responsibilities and a chance to attend to their own needs.

How much do elderly day centers in Birmingham typically cost?

The cost of elderly day centers can vary depending on the specific program, the services provided, and the duration of care. Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from hundreds to over a thousand dollars per month. Some centers offer sliding scale fees based on income, and some may be partially funded through grants or donations. Contacting individual centers directly will provide the most accurate information.

Are there different types of programs offered at elderly day centers?

Yes, elderly day centers often have a variety of program offerings to cater to different needs. This can include therapeutic activities for individuals with cognitive impairment, fitness classes for physical well-being, arts and crafts sessions, educational programs, and music therapy. Many centers also provide specialized care for individuals with specific medical conditions.

How do I find elderly day centers in Birmingham?

There are several ways to locate elderly day centers in Birmingham. You can search online directories and websites dedicated to senior services. Contacting the Birmingham Area Agency on Aging or local senior centers can also provide a list of available programs. Asking your doctor or other healthcare professionals is another good strategy for finding options.

What qualifications or licenses do elderly day centers need to operate?

Legitimate elderly day centers are typically required to be licensed and regulated by the state. This ensures they meet specific safety and quality standards. Licensing requirements often involve inspections, staff training, and background checks. Confirming a center's license status is a good practice when considering enrollment.

What kind of staff is typically employed at these centers?

Elderly day centers usually employ a team of dedicated professionals, including certified nursing assistants (CNAs), registered nurses (RNs), activity directors, and therapeutic specialists. The staff-to-client ratio is often regulated to ensure adequate care and supervision. It’s important to inquire about the staff's qualifications and experience.

What happens if my loved one needs medication management?

Many elderly day centers provide medication management services for individuals who require assistance with taking their medications. This may include administering medications, tracking dosages, and monitoring for side effects. It's essential to discuss your loved one’s medication needs and ensure the center has the appropriate policies and procedures in place.

Can my loved one attend the center part-time or just a few days a week?

Most elderly day centers offer flexible attendance options, allowing individuals to attend part-time or just a few days a week. This flexibility can be particularly appealing to families who need occasional respite or want their loved one to enjoy the social and recreational opportunities without requiring full-time enrollment. Confirming the availability of part-time options is a key question to ask.

How do I know if a center is a good fit for my loved one?

Finding the right elderly day center requires careful consideration. Visit several centers, observe the environment, and talk to staff and other families. Consider your loved one's individual needs and preferences. A good fit will offer a supportive and engaging atmosphere where they feel comfortable and enjoy the activities.
