I have had an extremely positive 3-month stay at the Circle Rehabilitation Clinic. I really cannot thank all the therapeutic, medical, care, catering and cleaning staff enough for everything they have done for me during a very challenging and difficult time in my life. They have all absolutely played their part in making my stay wholly positive and rewarding.
I have found the therapy to be challenging yet always purposeful and carefully focused on my individual needs. I have been set targets with clear lines of communication and excellent continuity between the physiotherapy and occupational therapists, just one example of very good multi-disciplinary working that has benefitted me greatly.
In addition, medical and care staff have supported me very well, and this has certainly added to my motivation to make physical, sensory and overall progress during my stay.
Health care staff have also always been helpful, courteous and friendly, creating a comfortable and supportive environment that I have very much appreciated.
Huge thanks also to the wonderful catering team led by Harjeet. I’ve been served tremendously good and healthy food by very friendly and helpful staff.
Thank you to everyone at the Circle. I appreciate everything that has been done for and with me. I could not be more grateful and will never forget your help.

Physio Kim is superb. The perfect amount of empathy, kindness and motivation. Throughout my ACL recovery not only has she put together a rigorous program but she’s also taken time to fully get to know and understand me and my lifestyle. Can’t remind her highly enough. Thank you so much Kim!

This is a tremendous facility that I had not heard of before I was referred from The Priory after my arthroscopy. The building is modern, light, airy and clean. It appears to be well equipped to aid a good recovery. I was treated with respect by all members of Staff. My Physio was Jamie who gave me several exercises to do regularly which at the moment appear to be helping. He was very considerate and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

I have been very pleased with the care and support that Laura has given me during my physio appointments. She is very friendly and is able to demonstrate and explain the required knee replacement exercises. I can highly recommend Circle Rehabilitation Birmingham. I was so pleased that there is plenty of parking with wide spaces to make getting in and out my car very easy. I was also impressed with the reception staff who were always friendly and helpful. Thanks to you all.

Cannot thank Laura Brookes enough for her incredible expertise and kindness she has shown me during the past 8 months. I ruptured my Achilles tendon in December and after surgery started seeing her in late January. The exercises (and also the availability of the app) she provided were superb – also her depth of knowledge and her understanding of you as a patient – when some days you felt very low and like you’d never walk again! After every single session I would come out feeling a lot more positive and be able to move freer and felt stronger. Beyond grateful to her – and also the wonderful gentleman who was so cheery on reception who would check me in at each appointment. Highly recommend

As a former therapist at Birmingham Recovery Center, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible compassion and dedication that defines this facility. The team here is truly unmatched in their commitment to providing high-quality, individualized care for every client who walks through the door.

BRC goes beyond just treating addiction—they focus on healing the whole person, addressing mental health, trauma, and the underlying factors that contribute to substance use. The clinical staff is highly skilled, deeply empathetic, and unwavering in their mission to support lasting recovery.

Having worked in the field for years, I can confidently say that Birmingham Recovery Center is the preeminent treatment facility in Alabama. Their approach is evidence-based, their environment is welcoming and supportive, and their passion for recovery is undeniable. Anyone seeking help for themselves or a loved one will find a level of care here that is truly life-changing.

I’m grateful to have been a part of such a remarkable team, and I continue to recommend BRC to anyone looking for the best in addiction treatment.

Birmingham Recovery is AMAZING!!!
Absolutely everyone from staff to therapist is as professional, helpful and supportive as anyone could hope for.
The facility is always clean and is always ready to go the extra mile.
A special THANK YOU goes to Jen Watts!! Jen was my individual therapist and I was amazed at the way she was able to navigate my sometimes closed mind and bring things to the surface that I needed to discuss. Her hard work is very appreciated.
Thank you to everyone at the BRC facility!!!

Birmingham Recovery Center brought light back into our family’s lives after our son’s years of struggling with addiction. He tried so hard to fight the battle on his own but thankfully, he realized the need for help and again thankfully, we were referred to BRC. The staff were so supportive and we wish to extend our profuse appreciation. I do not know all their names to thank them individually, but I did come to know his counselor Thomas and will always be grateful for his work with our son. He developed a supportive relationship which gave our son the confidence and trust to be open and honest in treatment therapy. BRC has been a turning point in our lives..

I have had the pleasure of working with John and Ian on a professional level and I can say first hand that these guys and the rest of the staff at the facility truly care about their clients who they treat and serve. They are committed to providing help to anyone who comes through their program and playing a part in their journey to recovery. I couldn’t recommend this program enough!

I cannot say enough good things about BRC, the staff, and everyone I met there. It may be hard to believe, but I was sad to finish treatment because of how much value they brought to my life. This place allowed me to accomplish everything I wanted and more. I left filled with love, gratitude, and confidence that I didn’t think was possible. I’m now able to be present and handle life as it comes at me. My life is forever changed, and I will always trace this new beginning back to BRC

I can not say more wonderful things about BRC. From the therapists to the front desk staff, they are all amazing people who truly care about helping someone who is struggling. I read the reviews before going to BRC and everyone had amazing things to say, and now I know why. I arrived at BRC in my lowest point, I had pretty much given up on my life, and I felt like I was never going to get better. I did not have many options, and I felt like my life was never going to go up from there. I have never been to treatment, so I did not know what to expect. The staff understood this and were extremely patient and understanding. They work with different types of therapy methods and give you an individual therapist who works with you on your specific needs. My individual therapist saved me and gave me the space to heal in a healthy way. I am extremely grateful. The one thing I could suggest would be to maybe have different diversity programs. I never felt out of place or different. I just wondered if there were different programs, like a Spanish program since I am a Spanish speaker, I wonder what that would look like. That would be my only suggestion. Overall, I am so grateful to BRC and all the staff for helping me get my life back together. Thanks to BRC, today I have a steady job, a great relationship with my family, and I am finally free from substances. I truly got my life back, and I couldn’t be more grateful to BRC for working with me for the past 4 months to get me to where I am today.

I was referred there by my GP for an assessment for possible Asperger’s Syndrome in response to a request from my employer. I arrived on a Saturday and talked about my past life to a doctor for an hour then I was asked to return next week with a friend or family member . When I replied that I wouldn’t be able to do that the doctor seemed annoyed . I returned alone the next Saturday and our conversation continued . Weeks later I received a letter that was a verbatim account of everything I had said and a brief footnote stating that I was on the Autistic Spectrum . Well yeah , I knew that years ago . This statement was utterly useless to me or my employer. No psychological assessment or tests were carried out and because I queried this I was described as expressionless . Well how would you feel if you had travelled 20 miles in your day off to engage in this charade ?
It is my belief that this whole process was an elaborate scam to obtain NHS funding in return for the minimum of effort and a complete waste of my valuable leisure time .

My experience of the priory (The Manor Ward) is mixed, but mainly it has been a positive one. I was admitted for the 28-day residential in which I spent a week detoxing and learning to manage alcohol cravings. I initially really struggled with not being allowed the freedom to go outside or exercise to control my mind and cravings which were at times unbearable. However, the staff and myself discussed this with my consultant who prescribed me further medication to take the edge off the irritability I was having.

My sleeping was mixed, but I was allowed medication as a last resort should I fail to get over naturally.

The yoga, mindfulness, relaxation, and fitness classes the priory offer are all good to take part in, I came in with an open mind and grew to actually enjoy yoga (something I never thought was possible).

A negative for me would be the quality of food that we receive, the money that the patients spend to come here I would expect a lot better, the standard at times was appalling & inedible, leaving me no choice to eat either sandwiches, soup or salad. I also think that we could do with more amenities on site such as a gym, this doesn’t have to be flash, just a treadmill and an exercise bike. Something to get the endorphins going instead of slouching around all day, taking part in one activity a day or sometimes none and having the whole day to have your mind wander and think. It can become too much at times.

I’d lastly like to leave a special mention to some of the staff who work here at the Priory, I did not have an issue with any member although there is some who go over and above and who I connected with and felt safe and comfortable around. Teresa & Julia are absolute diamonds with great personalities who build great relationships with all the patients. The stand out for me was Aisha, such a kind hearted soul who was the first nursing team staff I met when I arrived, she made me feel safe and cared for, she checked up on me constantly and nothing was ever an issue for her, i couldn’t help but smile any time she was on her shift because she had such a warm, caring heart that gave me comfort during such a difficult time in my life. I will look back fondly at my time at the priory with hope that I can continue on my path to sobriety with the tools and support I have received. I will be entirely grateful, god bless you all. The work you do is amazing.

Went to Livingstone House for 8 weeks in November 2023. The detoxification from alcohol process was second to none and I was comfortable. The treatment I received was excellent with staff being on point with their approach. Group therapy was particularly good and relevant. I am now almost 6 months clean and sober thanks largely to the foundation I received at Livingstone House.

Livingston house may well have saved my life. Its a wonderful place. I felt safe, unjudged, welcome and above all respected. There are rules to be abided by and they are strict and for bloody good reason! Every single member of staff there is a hero in my eyes. I’ve learned so much from the residents I lived with too. Thinking about what the staff and other residents did for me is getting me emotional as I’m typing this review. I love you guys and am eternally grateful.

I was a resident at Livingstone House in 2013 for 5 months and a further 4 months in aftercare.
My experience was excellent. I was looked after and cared for, aswell as my family being supported while I was away.
There were a lot of rules that didn’t make any sense at the time, or seemed petty considering how strict the consequences could be, but I later found it was these rules/structure are probably what saved my life.
I have had a few issues since moving on but with what I learnt and the contacts of good people I made, I managed to get back on it and I’m now 5 years clean with a high profile career and a loving fiancée soon to be wife.

Our son received outstanding care at Livingstone House throughout his 3 month stay. The amazing staff are what make Livingstone House a truly remarkable place. He was welcomed from the moment he spoke to Paul M, and his keyworker Paul B, worked hard to build a positive, trusted relationship with him, as did all the staff. As family, we were kept informed of our son’s progress and communication was excellent. All the staff have a deep understanding of addiction and our son describes how this was the most important part of his recovery. Staff show genuine compassion and care and create a family culture that helped our son settle so quickly. He always felt respected and valued and spoke so highly of all the staff right from the early days of his stay. He has returned to us healthy and happy and with the skills with which to rebuild his life, and this is thanks to all the staff at Livingstone House.

Today I am celebrating 60 days of sobriety and it’s all thanks to New Leaf. Saying that my time at New Leaf was life changing almost doesn’t seem like enough. It was truly life saving!
Having struggled with alcohol addiction for most of my adult life, and having tried and failed to quit by myself, with therapy, with help from AA… I finally called New Leaf.
From the moment I was greeted at the door everyone who worked for New Leaf was amazing. The kindness, understanding, compassion, honesty, and caring I felt from all the staff was like nothing I have ever felt in my life. I felt safe and secure from day one.
The daily groups helped me gain a deeper understanding of myself, and my addiction. I was given all the tools I needed to leave New Leaf after 28 days and face the world. The things I learned here will stay with me for the rest of my life. I am so grateful that I found this place. I am a different person, a far better person, today than I was 60 days ago.
On a practical side, the food is amazing, the beds are super comfortable, and the rooms are spacious and airy. The whole environment is so perfect for getting well.
If you’re ready to change your life in ways you can’t even imagine right now, please call New Leaf. They will take care of you!

Amazing Place. I honestly cannot say anything bad about the Endocrinology Team or the blood test service. Very polite, professional and intelligent doctors and nurses in the Endocrinology Team who are very supportive and patiently explain to me what is going on in terms of diagnoses, treatment, tests, etc. The nurses who did my blood test noticed that I was stressed and were very supportive and calm and distracted me from my stress by talking to me about something unrelated to blood tests. Very good place for someone with mental health problems or neurodivergence like Autism or ADHD as the staff are very understanding.

THEY FALSIFIED MY TEST!!Literally just got home from this place and they botched my test(emg/ncs for those who care). I could see the screen the whole time and she said everything was normal. I believe i have early symptoms of a rare (1 in 1m) disorder where certain triggers(varies by person)can cause all my muscles to seize and I get tremors. The female doctor (I think np) preformed it and she right off the bat mentioned my meds list(as usual) don’t come here.

THEY FALSIFIED MY TEST!!

I was in Spain for about 10 days after being in Huntsville hospital for almost 2 weeks following a motorcycle crash (rear-ended by an inattentive driver). I had pelvic surgery with the insertion of some internal fixators, broken ribs, scalp lacerations , and road rash. I have no complaints with my treatment at Spain. Everyone was professional and attentive, they took excellent care of me. If you or a loved one needs rehabilitation services I highly recommend Spain.

My daughter uses Spain rehab for her Spina Bifida clinic. Each year she goes to clinic to see her three doctors who care for her disability. Today we got to clinic and had our test done. That took about an hour and a half. Pretty normal. Then we were placed in an exam room so she could see her doctors Two hours later I asked how much longer before we would see her doctors. The nurse told me we were next. Her urologist came in about 30 minutes later and I asked how long until we would see her other doctors. She said y’all are not scheduled to see anybody but me. I was very upset because we had been at the hospital 5 hours and in an exam room for 3 hours. I told the nurse we really needed to see the other doctors as she had some very serious health issues this year. She left and came back and said I’m sorry y’all will have to come back next month Both doctors were in clinic seeing patients but wouldn’t see her I have no idea why she wasn’t on the schedule to see the other two doctors because she sees them every year. I feel like my daughter was not as important as other patients and if we had any choice I would go anywhere else.

I would like to add the doctor called my daughter this afternoon and apologized which helped our feelings Thank you for taking the time to correct the mistake

Park House, all of the staff & CGL saved me from over from 21yrs of chronic intravenous opiate addiction when i went there on 14-6- 2022. I left there on 80mls methadone. stayed clean from illicit drugs & went back to Park House on the 23-1-2024 to detox off 20mls of methadone as i had tapered down the dose to make my stay easier. I had usually dotoxed at home before but after being on heroin for so long & methadone for 18yrs & liver problems i needed professional help from workers & volunteers who can’t do enough for you. I went to a different detox unit 15yrs ago so sort of knew what to expect but Park House was the real deal. For anyone who is thinking of going to Park House or is waiting to be admitted, go for it. Open up about your feelings one on one or in groups, get stuck into all of the group work & take as much help as you can for when you leave. I can’t believe i’m clean & free of chemicals now as i had totally surrendered to the drug before Park House, the staff & volunteers saved my life & am now looking forward to a future that will be a lot easier & happier to live. I would like to thank all of the staff at Park House & CGL who lifted me out of the bottomless pit that i needed help to get out of. Lots of love & care to all the staff who have & are still helping me move forward.❤

Absolute nightmare recently, used to be good but recently been horrendous. They seem to never have never have staff working. I don’t believe they are always out on calls. I have had a faulty chair for years now and they aren’t resolving it. I got given a new chair which did not have tilt and recline now when i asked for old one back ross care have brought it back in a right state! They repaired the fault by putting a faulty base on it! It’s about time they did the repairs in house.

My mom visited this clinic over four weeks ago and was promised that a letter would be sent to her doctor for medication for the low blood pressure she experiences when she tries to stand. Our doctor has still not heard anything from them. I have since tried to contact the clinic by phone and been given four different numbers but they are either continually engaged or goes to voicemail or the number i’d been given was incorrect. Does anybody care anymore?

5.1 (+ 44 reviews)

The Ann Marie Howes Centre appears to have significant challenges regarding its care provision. From what is evident, the level of physiotherapy and rehabilitation offered seems inadequate to meet the needs of many patients, resulting in a frustrating and disappointing experience for families. It is concerning to hear reports of insufficient staff interaction and potential neglect.

The overall impression suggests a place requiring substantial improvements in its operational practices and dedication to patient well-being. Families considering this centre should carefully evaluate its suitability, seeking assurances about adequate staffing levels, consistent physiotherapy sessions, and a commitment to addressing patient concerns proactively. Resident safety is paramount.

If i could give it 0 star i would. Absolute joke of a place they where supposedly going to try and rehab some mobilty back into my nan. .my honest opinion was that at 94 she hadnt got it anymore to give but they said they wanted to try. But they have one physiotherapist who works part time and has spent 10 minutes with my nan in 4 weeks. Last week they pressured us into getting her home. But home was currently suitable so spent days grafting to get it suitable her discharge was then due yesterday after several lies like from we are waiting on the pharmacist to the care package isnt in place (it was we as a family put it in place) then to this morning it was shes refusing to leave then too the paramedics are refusing to bring her home. Thankfully i now have her home care package and family in place. This place should be shut down and a certain physiotherapist we call person N should be investigated for what her role is. Complete drain on the nhs. If you can keep your loved ones out this hole for the love of god do.

We are not very happy with this place as our mom was sent there from hospital to get physio and help her on her feet so she could go home and be able to move around. In the 2 weeks, she only got an hour at most of physio. She come home and still can’t get up on her own. What was the point? What is that place really for ? If you’ve got any sense you’ll not bother sending any family there.

Do not let your relatives go to this awful place!!! My mom was supposed to be supervised but was left alone and had a fall within 2 hours of being transferred there. She was recovering from a broken hip and when she told staff her hip was hurting after the fall they just put her back into bed and left her. My mom asked them to call an ambulance as she thought she had re-broken her hip but they refused. My mom had to call the ambulance herself and it wasn’t until they realised this that they then made a call to 999. I attended this place and asked why my mom had to call an ambulance herself and they told me she was lying even after I showed them the phone record! As the wait for an ambulance was lengthy, under paramedics guidance, I decided to take my mom to A&E myself. They did provide a wheelchair so I could transfer my mom to the car but they stood and watched me struggle to open the double doors and push my mom and the wheelchair through. The staff act disgustingly and do not care for their patients at all.

After 3 months in Heartlands ICU, my brother came here with an amputated leg, he found the nurses to be nice, but after two weeks he was told he was fit to leave.
We told the Social workers that his house was not fit for purpose, and even though they did an assessment and saw the mould on the walls and the missing floorboards, they still kicked him out, we were told that a care package had been put in place, it’s now six months since he left and we are still waiting for the care package we were promised.
He doesn’t need it anymore though as he died a couple of months later.

Our 88 year old Mom spent two weeks in the centre after her hospital discharge for a fractured femur. The majority of the staff were caring, helpful and friendly and the rooms are spotlessly clean. Mom also loved the food. Although the physio service could have been more intensive, we feel there must be shortage of staff. Mom came home being able to use the stairs and walk with a zimmer frame and the help of one person. The OT arranged for all the aids to be sent home.
We are pleased with Mom’s progress.
On a critical note we noticed that the doctor did not see her very often, only 3 times in 2 weeks.

Avoid this place! My nan was there for 4-5 weeks. She had a fall, took them 30 minutes to even call an ambulance, and an hour to let us know. When my nan arrived at hospital she was dehydrated, under weight and had broken her femur, 5 breaks in her plevis and a cracked vertebrae in her neck as well as two cuts on the back of her head. Staff didn’t offer an explanation for these injuries other than she fell. Staff and management didn’t show any concern when I went to collect nans belongings.
The hospital staff knew of the awful reputation of Anne Marie Howes. I wouldn’t put a dog there never mind a human.

My mother has lost weight and deteriorated since going to this “rehabilitation” centre. She is left in her chair/bed ALL DAY. No exercise. No getting her up and walking. There are clearly socialising areas for the patients, they are used for storage. While the staff chat in the corridor about their holidays. I asked a member of staff for a water refill for my mum. Clearly they felt this was beneath them because we were told to wait until the person whose job it was returned from lunch. IT’S JUST WATER! The place is clearly understaffed with ridiculous pressure, but there is always time for kindness, curtesy and dignity.

My mum has a painful frozen shoulder……..they didn’t even touch it. Not any physio on it at all. But they expected her to be able to support her body weight with her arms.

My mum is prone to falling but has full mental capacity if a bit forgetful. Can walk, but needs help getting up. They wanted to force her into a nappy. When she tried them she couldn’t convince her body to wet itself. This was reported to me as my mum “REFUSING to use the pads” which was a total lie. I challenge any continent person to sit fully clothed in a chair or bed wearing a nappy to urinate on themselves. Because until you are incontinent it isn’t ongoing to happen. This would have reduced my mother to being incontinent and bed bound. As the four carers a day would have just left her sitting in her own waste.

There are good staff there that are caring. There really are, and it is such a shame that they get tarnished by the overall performance of this place. The place is spotless, warm, and doesn’t smell bad.

My mum is the chillest, most shy and quiet person you could meet. Yet mum was made to feel as if she was a nuisance because she has issues with her bladder being hypersensitive. Staff Ignore her bell calls forcing her to risk falling by getting out of her chair without assistance to make her own way to the toilet. Or are rude to her when they do answer. Sending inexperienced male carers to wash her, leaving her feeling and smelling unclean in the most important regions of her body to maintain good hygiene.

I was told I could take her dirty washing home in the black bag provided in the laundry basket. Apparently she is only allowed a single black bag, since I took it, it hasn’t been replaced. But I’m also expected to wash their pyjamas!?

Bottom line, if they offer you a rehab bed, ask for the centre in Harborne.

Catalog of services offered by rehabilitation centers in Birmingham

    Medical Detoxification Services

Many rehabilitation centers in Birmingham offer medical detoxification services as the initial step in recovery. This involves supervised withdrawal from substances under the care of medical professionals, managing symptoms and ensuring a safe transition.

    Individual Therapy Sessions

Individual therapy sessions are a cornerstone of rehabilitation. Therapists work one-on-one with clients to explore underlying issues, develop coping mechanisms, and address personal goals for lasting recovery.

    Group Therapy Sessions

Group therapy sessions provide a supportive environment for clients to share experiences, learn from peers, and build connections. Facilitated by therapists, these sessions encourage communication and provide accountability.

    Behavioral Therapies (CBT, DBT)

Rehabilitation centers frequently utilize behavioral therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These approaches help clients identify and change thought patterns and behaviors contributing to substance use.

    Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapies. This is often used for opioid and alcohol use disorders, reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms while addressing underlying issues.

    Family Therapy and Support

Recognizing the impact of substance use on families, rehabilitation centers in Birmingham offer family therapy and support. This can involve counseling for family members, education about addiction, and strategies for healthy communication and boundaries.

    Holistic Therapies (Yoga, Art Therapy)

Many rehabilitation centers incorporate holistic therapies such as yoga, art therapy, and mindfulness practices. These approaches address the mind-body connection, promoting relaxation, stress management, and overall well-being during the recovery process.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rehabilitation Centers in Birmingham

What types of rehabilitation services are typically offered?

Rehabilitation centers in Birmingham commonly offer a range of services tailored to different needs. These often include physical therapy for mobility issues, occupational therapy to regain daily living skills, speech therapy for communication difficulties, behavioral therapy to address emotional and psychological challenges, and hydrotherapy which utilizes water for therapeutic purposes. Some centers also provide specialized programs for substance abuse and trauma recovery.

How do I choose the right rehabilitation center for my needs?

Selecting the appropriate rehabilitation center involves careful consideration. Factors to assess include the center’s accreditation, the experience and qualifications of the staff, the range of services offered, and the patient-to-staff ratio. It’s vital to research online reviews and schedule tours of potential centers to observe the environment and interact with staff.

What is the typical length of stay at a rehabilitation center?

The length of stay at a rehabilitation center can vary significantly. It depends on factors like the severity of the condition, the patient's progress, and the treatment plan. Stays can range from a few days to several weeks or even months. The medical team will regularly evaluate progress and adjust the discharge plan accordingly.

What insurance plans are typically accepted?

Rehabilitation centers in Birmingham usually accept a wide variety of insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance providers. However, it’s crucial to verify coverage with both the rehabilitation center and your insurance company before beginning treatment. Understanding your copays, deductibles, and coverage limitations is essential to avoid unexpected costs.

What is the process for admission to a rehabilitation center?

The admission process generally starts with a referral from a physician or other healthcare professional. Potential patients usually undergo a assessment to determine their needs and suitability for the center's programs. This may involve a medical evaluation, functional assessments, and psychological screening. Following the assessment, a treatment plan is developed, and admission is finalized upon receipt of necessary paperwork and insurance authorization.

What types of conditions benefit from rehabilitation services?

Rehabilitation services can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions. These include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injuries (such as fractures and joint replacements), neurological disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis), and cardiac rehabilitation following heart surgery or heart attack.

Are family members allowed to visit?

Most rehabilitation centers in Birmingham encourage family involvement in the recovery process. Visitation policies often depend on the center's regulations and the patient's condition. While unrestricted visitation may not always be possible, centers typically allow for scheduled visits, phone calls, and video conferencing to facilitate communication and support. Specifics are usually outlined in the center’s guidelines.

What is the difference between skilled and custodial care?

It's important to understand the distinction between skilled care and custodial care. Skilled care requires the services of licensed professionals like physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists to treat a medical condition. Custodial care primarily focuses on basic needs like bathing, dressing, and feeding, and generally does not involve therapeutic interventions. Rehabilitation centers primarily offer skilled care.

What is the role of a case manager?

A case manager plays a vital role in coordinating the patient's care and ensuring a smooth transition from the rehabilitation center to their next setting. They act as a liaison between the patient, their family, healthcare providers, and insurance companies. Their responsibilities include developing discharge plans, arranging for home health services, and addressing any financial or logistical challenges.

How can I find out more about the quality of a rehabilitation center?

Assessing the quality of a rehabilitation center involves several steps. You can check for accreditation from recognized bodies like CARF International. Reviewing patient satisfaction surveys and online reviews can offer insights. Checking with state licensing agencies and the Better Business Bureau can also provide valuable information. Don’t hesitate to request data on outcomes and readmission rates.
