Outstanding Care at The Priory Hospital, Birmingham

I recently had a total knee replacement at The Priory Hospital in Birmingham, performed by Mr. Marcus Green. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with the utmost care and professionalism. The nursing team were exceptional—kind, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile.

The hospital itself was immaculate, with the highest standards of cleanliness I’ve ever seen in a medical setting. To top it off, the food was excellent—fresh, tasty, and well-prepared.

I’m incredibly grateful for the care I received and want to thank Mr. Green and the entire team for making what could have been a daunting experience so smooth and reassuring. I highly recommend The Priory Hospital to anyone in need of first-class medical treatment.

I felt as if all the nursing staff went out of their way to make this (pre-op assessment) a happy, safe, reassuring and peaceful visit. And it was! The nurses are friendly and chatty, and it’s clear from their speed and efficiency that they are very experienced and knowledgable. What a splendid group! Looking forward to my next visit!

Had a really well organised, facilitated, and caring experience. All the staff were lovely right from reception to theatre. Everything was explained. No question went unanswered and I felt I was the priority to every member of staff. No one rushed me or dismissed me. It was a really good experience considering it was an operation. I’ve never felt so at ease in a medical setting.

Just been for my pre med for my hip replacement. The whole experience was first class. No waiting around, runs like clockwork. Everybody very professional.
A special mention for secretary Angela Roberts who has been brilliant. Sorting out the date for my operation after being given the runaround by many others.
Many thanks Angela

Having just returned home after having HiFu procedure at The Priory hospital this morning in Edgbaston, Birmingham I can only speak highly regarding my whole experience there. From the moment I arrived at 7.00 this morning all of the staff involved in my care were so friendly and just brilliant. My procedure was carried out by Dr Doherty who was wonderful from the first meeting we had 3 weeks ago to our discussion this morning pre operation. I had a private room with its own bathroom which was clean and well presented with my own tv. The food was lovely and they looked after my wife with cups of tea when she stayed in the room whilst I was down in theatre.
I can honestly say that I would highly recommend The Priory, Edgbaston and Dr Doherty. It was a wonderful place to have the HiFu treatment and I would just like to thank everyone involved in my care today for looking after me so well.

This was my second surgery here within 6 weeks and the care I have received on both occasions was exemplary. I actually had the same nurse this time helped out by a Sister. They are both wonderfully kind people and I really felt like I was in good hands throughout. I can’t express enough how well taken care of I felt. Amazing care and service at the Priory. I was very impressed

Thank you. Recent day case operation at The Priory Hospital in Edgbaston. Excellent staff. Kind, considerate, caring and respectful in everything they did during the whole patient journey. From my Orthopaedic Consultant, Mr Samuel Chan, to the nursing staff, the theatre staff and the Consultant Anaesthetist, the post operative physiotherapist and the catering staff. I cannot speak highly enough about my experience there. Hopefully I won’t need any further treatment but if I do I will definitely use the Priory Hospital in Edgbaston in future. I had an ADHD assessment with Dr. Minnie Joseph, and she made the whole experience seamless and supportive. She explained everything so clearly, from the assessment to the aftercare and steps I needed to take, which made what could have been a daunting and anxiety-inducing process feel so much easier. Her kindness, professionalism, and clear guidance helped me not only through the assessment but also in understanding ADHD and how to manage it in my daily life. I’m so grateful it has made a huge difference.

The whole process was so quick and really amazing service. Soraya was amazing! I had reply’s to my emails so fast and they explained everything perfectly. A real credit to this company as I’m a very anxious person and from the emails alone, Soraya made me feel welcomed and alot less anxious about this.

I would recommend here to anyone needing ADHD or Autism test. Dr Kudlur made the day really calm and relaxing. He’s explained everything so clearly and I feel he’s really helped me move forward in my life. Amazing place with amazing people. Thankyou all again

I contacted Midland Health to get a COVID-19 travel certificate. On the phone all of my questions were answered professionally and thoroughly. The facility was easy to find. I arrived at my appointment the recommended 10 minutes early and was seen straight away. The nurse was friendly, professional, put me at ease and explained the procedure in detail. The test was quick and easy and I had left the facility by the time my appointment was supposed to start. I was assured that my results would be sent to me by midnight the following day, however, they were sent to me even sooner. I could not recommend the services at Midland Health enough!

I saw Dr Sam Smith (gastroenterologist) at this practice. The information on the website was clear and helpful and making an appointment was easy.

The practice is nice and modern and the admin staff were polite, kind and helpful, both on the day and in subsequent days, when contacted on the phone.

Dr Smith was very kind and attentive – I felt listened to – and was well to give me a diagnosis and prescribe medication.

The report was sent to me the following day and was detailed and accurate.

I would certainly recommend Midland Health and Dr Smith (although I hope I won’t need to!!).

Thank you, Midland Health.

*I recently had a consultation with Dr. Dawson for my 4-month-old daughter, and I couldn’t be more grateful.** He is a highly qualified and understanding pediatrician, with a wonderfully caring approach to little ones. My baby was calm and relaxed in his hands, which really shows how gentle and reassuring he is. I felt truly supported and well-guided as a parent — he took time to explain everything clearly and treated me as a partner in the diagnostic and treatment process. That made a huge difference. He made us feel completely at ease. I absolutely recommend Dr. Dawson and will definitely return to him whenever we need medical advice for our daughter.

I want to say a massive thank you to Dr Pav Hare for her outstanding service. From my personal experience, I am so grateful to be in a position where I was able to book a private assessment for diagnosing my ADHD with Dr Kudlur.

Due to my circumstances, this prognosis required immediate action, whereas the NHS waiting lists for diagnosing adults can be multiple years in my area, from what info I have gathered.

From my initial enquiry, to booking in for my first assessment, to official diagnosis, the process took approx. 4 weeks.

I am now on medication to help me day-to-day, and have check-ups on a monthly basis to make sure the medication is the correct dosage for my needs as well as discussing any further concerns.

Booking the appointments is incredibly quick, for example, my appointment earlier today was only booked yesterday afternoon. I count myself lucky if I am able to get my local GP to see me within the same week!

I am six months into my journey so far, and I am able to understand and answer questions which I did not have the answers to previously.

Everyone I have spoken to at Midland Health so far have been extremely helpful as well as accommodating to my needs, so it saddens me to see that others may not have had the same experience.

In short, if you are able to afford this route for diagnosing something like ADHD or ASD a lot sooner than the current NHS waiting times, especially for adults, then I would highly recommend the team at Midland Health.

Zero jakiegokolwiek podejścia do pacjentki. Nigdy juz się tam nie umówię i odradzam wszystkim lepiej zaoszczędzić sobie niepotrzebnego dodatkowego stresu przez takiego konowała.

Everyone that I have come in contact with at this practice is kind, knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Carter is the best GYN that I have ever seen in my 59 years. Finding the right OB-GYN can feel overwhelming, but from the moment I connected with Dr. McKee’s office, I knew I was in the best hands. Dr. McKee is truly one of the kindest, most compassionate doctors I’ve ever met. He has a calm, reassuring presence that instantly makes you feel safe and cared for. Every appointment feels personal—he listens, explains, and treats you with the utmost respect. I never feel rushed, and I always leave knowing that my concerns were heard and valued.

From the very first phone call, Layla in scheduling set the tone for the entire experience. She is incredibly warm, helpful, and genuinely caring. Her kindness doesn’t feel like customer service—it feels like she’s welcoming you into a place where your well-being truly matters. That level of care extends throughout the entire practice.

I’m deeply grateful to have found a team like this, and I can’t recommend them enough.

I’m back and finally able to review the OB side of Birmingham OBGYN! After the heartbreaking loss of our first pregnancy, my GYN, Dr. McKee, referred me to Dr. Norton on the OB side of the clinic, believing she would be the perfect fit for my continuity of care once we found out we were pregnant again. He could not have been more correct.

Dr. Norton and the entire nursing staff have been nothing short of incredible—compassionate, attentive, and respectful every step of the way. We actually look forward to our appointments, not only because of the excitement of this journey, but also because the staff’s positivity and genuine love for what they do makes each visit such a joyful experience.

Another thing I truly appreciate is that every phone call I’ve made has been returned before the end of the business day, and never once have I felt like I was inconveniencing anyone by asking for help or guidance. That kind of responsiveness and care makes such a difference during this season of life.

My continuity of care has been seamless, and the communication between physicians is excellent. This clinic truly knows what they’re doing, and I cannot imagine experiencing this level of care anywhere else.

Thank you, Birmingham OBGYN, for showing up wholeheartedly for your patients. Your work does not go unnoticed, and it matters more than you’ll ever hear.

I recently had my first appointment at Birmingham Obstetrics & Gynecology, PC, and I can’t say enough good things about the entire experience. From check-in to check-out, the team was incredibly efficient, kind, and welcoming—and not in that robotic, surface-level way. It felt real, warm, and human!

But the absolute standout was Kaylie Franklin, NP. Y’all… she is incredible! Kind, attentive, genuine, and above all, she truly listens. I walked out of that appointment feeling seen, heard, and FINALLY validated in the concerns I’ve had for far too long. She approached my perimenopause symptoms with both compassion and knowledge, and worked with me to create a plan that feels both thoughtful and empowering. Also, side note: I had an ultrasound while there and a phone call with detailed results, explanations, and a plan, within about 2-3 hours. So rare in my experience!

I am even hesitant to leave this review because I worry that she will get so popular that I wont be able to get an appointment easily in the future, hehe. But for real, I honestly wish I had met her years ago. Women’s health isn’t always the most comfortable or easy thing to navigate, but Kaylie made it feel safe, respectful, and even hopeful. I left feeling relieved, grateful, and finally cared for in the way every woman deserves.

If you’re looking for a provider who brings empathy and excellence to the table, Kaylie Franklin is the ONE!

Absolutely love this practice and specifically Dr.Norton. I went to a different practice for the first 15 weeks of my pregnancy and then transferred my care to Dr.Norton. She is personable, helpful and caring. I am a 1st time mom and every appointment she listened to every question and answered them fully while also calming my concerns. At 39 weeks I had decreased fetal movement and called the practice and they told me to go to the ER immediately. Thankfully everything was okay but the practice called me the next day to check in and when I went in for my appointment they worked with me for a plan of action for an induction. Dr. Norton also delivered my baby and she was encouraging? Informative, and did a great job of validating my feelings and keeping me calm during my delivery. I am so thankful for Dr.Norton and truly could not asked for a better doctor!

THIS HOSPITAL IS DANGEROUS! Run don’t walk to any other hospital, you would be safer giving birth on your own, with no pain relief, in the middle of the night in a dark alley way. The majority of midwives at this Trust lack basic knowledge and do NOT care. Each department will blame another department when things go wrong. Never put yourself in a situation where you have to use Triage, as they do NOT want to see you even when there is an emergency. Women are in the waiting room their waters are breaking, they are pleading for help while the midwives sit inside the triage doors watching TikTok’s and rolling their eyes. You will not have any options for giving birth, if you tell them you would like a C-section for genuine reasons they will ignore your calls and avoid contact with you so that you go into labor naturally so they do not have to do it. They left me in labor for 4 days and then did a C-section anyway! Women are left in labor for days and days, before any interventions. Some patients are allowed multiple visitors day and night, including multiple children visiting and others are not! Radiographers will not allow siblings of the unborn baby into scans, my husband was even refused to come in, yet a migrant family were permitted to bring 5 guests including children into the scan room. The dinner lady offered me a piece of ‘crumble’ on the ward when I refused she told me she didn’t blame me, because it smelled like female private parts, this is a member of their own staff speaking to someone like that who has just given birth, about the food they are serving. Believe the bad reviews they are all true and go anywhere else other than this Trust!

So far our experience has been lovely for the most part
Unfortunately not all positive
Needed a scan to check placenta placement
One particular staff member left us feeling uncomfortable and some what in pain digging the scanner in so much and not willing to give partner a reasonable answer rude towards children who came to see their sibling for the first time suggesting inappropriate internal scan with children present when declined said they could stand in the corridor
We left as soon as appointment finished feeling unsettled and uncared for

Next appointment was an improvement
Different doctor explained everything he was doing happy to answer any questions and queries checked placenta all good.
No issues other than having to spend 3 further hours waiting for midwife and then doctor to be given a final round up
All good thankfully

Many women were becoming unsettled and distressed having to wait all day

Since day 1 I have waited very long for my appointments at the Fertility Clinic. This is really frustrating as I have to pay for parking unnecessarily. Noone tells you what’s going on, you just have to wait. If I had a choice, I would go elsewhere. Today I waited an hour before someone spotted I had been for too long. When I booked for my appointment I advised them I had another appointment at another hospital an hour’s drive from Birmingham. Thanks to them, I missed the other appointment. Hate is an understatement. I wish I would NEVER have to come back again. However, I encountered very good staff like Carly(my first appointment was long but worth every minute? Unfortunately, I can’t remember the other staff members’ names but they were great.

the most horrible experience ever. Absolutely unprofessional. I have a 17 year old niece and she’s been waiting to be seen at since 4PM. She waited 2 hours to see a GP just for 5 minutes. After that they left her to sit in the waiting room for 11 hours. She asked for water because she felt a little bit sick and they refused to give her some. She asked if she can book an appointment tomorrow at registration but they said no because they need permission from the doctor. Just for the doctor to call in my niece from the waiting area and tell her come in the next two days for her appointment. Bare in mind the hospital was empty from 9PM and she’s been sitting down on the waiting area from 4PM to 5AM. She’s also underage they didn’t even know how she was going to get home.

Don’t come here to give birth. I had the most traumatic and neglegent experience here as a first time mom. 5 days on the ward being induced, full of migrants that stay on the phone all night speaking in their own language, 100s of visitors at a time, no one says a word. The “bath” offered to women on the inducement ward is filthy. I was allowed to go over by 15 days, so dangerous. I had an epidural and it failed, I then had 3 blood patches due to them leaking spinal fluid up to my brain. After birth I was wheeled down to another ward but they “didn’t have a wheelchair” so I was sat on the edge of a trolley holding my baby about to fall off. No alarm put on my baby for the 48 hours we stayed post birth, anyone could have taken him out the hospital. Awful experience.

Lovely Experience at the women’s hospital. I had my first baby here via C section at the end of March this year and the staff couldn’t have been better. I was so anxious and scared for my surgery but all of the staff in OWL were amazing. The midwife who looked after me and the other women before going into their c sections that day was so amazing I’m gutted I don’t know her name but if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have been as calm as I was going into theatre.
I wish I knew all of their names but the staff in the surgery room were incredible, so kind and reassuring. The midwife Daisy who handled my baby when born was so amazing, her kindness will stick with me for life.
I think it was ward 3 I was in with a midwife named Ella who was so caring and was happy to help/answer any questions I had as a new mum.
I read some horror story reviews on here before my babies birth which really scared me but not all experiences are bad. I couldn’t credit this hospital enough.

Amazing!

After going through child loss at good hope hospital due to medical negligence, I had booked the birmingham women’s hospital for my baby when I found out I was pregnant. 10/10 care I received, amazing staff. I was high risk with a cervical cerclage, hypermesis and many more conditions you could name, I was always checked and always told to come in if something was off. I ended up with multiple infections I was only sent home when I felt better in myself. I had a successful vbac too. Thank you to the amazing staff and my midwife Olivia dodd who helped me through labour!! Highly recommend this hospital. Also dr hodgets clinic the best for high risk women!

The information you have beforehand is totally correct take painkillers beforehand you will receive cramping pain whilst this is taking place but this is bearable I was extremely nervous beforehand but the Nurse was lovely and reassuring Dr Cheema is very knowledgeable and explains things well overall although not what anyone wants to go through this made a difficult situation more comfortable shout out to the team at Womans Unit including the lovely woman who showed me where to go as I went to Maternity unit by accident what would we do without our NHS many thanks

In the 11 week of my 1st and only pregnancy I had a heavy bleeding and period like cramps, went to the GAU in Heartlands as it was the closest hospital to me, however prior leaving home I changed my pad.
At the hospital they wanted to assess my pad to decide whether it is an emergency or not.
I explained that I changed my pad 10 mins ago, so it is not soaked at the moment, however they said it is the only way to determine the emergency.
Therefore, they concluded it is not necessary to scan me or anything and discharged me.
I started looking for a private scan, it was impossible on the day, it was Sunday too, so we ended up going to Telford. As we were traveling for about an hour and a half, I felt like something dropped in the cervical canal.
In the private scan clinic, the lady did abdominal scan, couldn’t see the baby, asked if I am okay for a transvaginal scan, I agreed and she asked me to go to the toilet first.
Unfortunately, as soon as I aimed to pee, large, heavy, blood clots started to falling out. I knew I lost my baby. The sonographer confirmed this.
On the next day I went to Birmingham Women’s, who were exceptional in their ability to comfort me and my partner and explain what is to happen now.
The whole situation is very said, because I had spotting from the very first week I found I am pregnant, and I have spoken with my midwife about that, and she assured me it is normal in some women.
I am very disappointed with Heartlands, because they didn’t listen, they decided to draw a conclusion based on a new pad, and neglected the fact that I had spotted before, and that I was in pain and there was heavy bleeding at the time I presented to the GAU.
Maybe I would have lost the baby even if they took me in. But I would have also avoided all of the worries, fears, and concerns that i experienced throughout the whole damned day.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gynecologists in Birmingham

What exactly does a gynecologist do?

Gynecologists are medical professionals specializing in the reproductive health of women. They provide care related to the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, and vulva. This includes routine checkups, screening tests, treatment of conditions, and family planning services. The scope extends from adolescence through menopause and beyond.

Why is a pelvic exam important, and how often should I have one?

A pelvic exam is a vital part of a woman’s routine healthcare. It helps detect early signs of disease, such as cervical cancer, ovarian cysts, or sexually transmitted infections (STIs). For women aged 21-29, an exam is typically recommended every two years, including a Pap smear. For women aged 30-65, depending on risk factors, it may be every three to five years, or with changes in recommendations.

What is the difference between a gynecologist and an obstetrician?

While the terms are often used interchangeably, there’s a distinction. A gynecologist specializes primarily in the reproductive health of women. An obstetrician focuses specifically on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. Many doctors are both OB/GYNs, combining both specialties, offering complete care for women at all stages of life.

What is a Pap smear, and why is it necessary?

A Pap smear, or Pap test, is a screening test for cervical cancer. It involves collecting cells from the cervix to check for abnormal changes that could lead to cancer. Regular Pap smears are crucial for early detection and prevention of this disease, significantly improving prognosis.

What questions should I ask during my first visit to a gynecologist?

It's always a good idea to prepare a list of questions for your first visit. Consider asking about the doctor’s experience, their approach to patient care, and their philosophy on reproductive health. Also, inquire about office procedures, insurance acceptance, and communication methods.

What are some common gynecological conditions treated by gynecologists in Birmingham?

Gynecologists in Birmingham treat a wide range of conditions including fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), urinary tract infections (UTIs), and vaginal infections. Treatment often involves medication, lifestyle changes, or, in some cases, surgical intervention.

How do I choose the right gynecologist for me?

Finding the right gynecologist is a personal decision. Consider factors like location, insurance coverage, doctor's credentials, and patient reviews. It’s also important to find a doctor with whom you feel comfortable and trust. Many offices offer brief consultations to assess rapport before becoming a patient.

What is the importance of family planning services?

Family planning services offer guidance and resources for women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. This includes discussions about contraception options, fertility awareness, prenatal care, and safe sex practices. These services are important for both those planning a family and those choosing not to.

What should I expect during a routine gynecological checkup?

A routine checkup typically involves a review of your medical history, a pelvic exam, a Pap smear (if appropriate), and a discussion about any concerns or symptoms you may be experiencing. It’s also an opportunity to receive vaccinations, like HPV, and receive advice on overall health and wellness.

How do I prepare for a gynecological appointment?

To prepare for your appointment, gather any relevant medical records, including past Pap smear results. Be prepared to discuss your menstrual cycle, sexual activity, and any medications you are taking. It’s also helpful to make a list of any questions you have for the doctor.
