I went on the 'from canals and Victorian's to today's city' tour yesterday and would highly recommend it. Jonathan was an excellent guide, we were told lots of interesting facts and covered quite a lot of ground. Headphones are used, which means that you can easily hear everything that's being said. I'm not familiar with Birmingham and this tour allowed me to see parts of the city that I wouldn't otherwise have seen. The route that we followed was well thought out and passed a good mix of sights. Definitely worth the price!
What a brilliant tour! Jonathan, the organiser as well as our guide on the day, is a very approachable and knowledgeable person who treated us like old friends, with a group photo to boot. We had overseas visitors on our tour, some of whom couldn't speak much English, but Jonathan kept them involved by relating aspects of Birmingham to their home country. Indeed, along with his wit, Jonathan adapts his narrative to the audience to keep them engaged. Although a walking tour, we didn't find it physically taxing at all as most of the attractions are centrally based. We went on a very gentle amble, and with audio headsets, it didn't matter if we lagged a little behind. We learned both historical and geographical facts about Birmingham that have made it a leading city in the world for industrial and cultural innovation, including references to bands that have achieved wide international fame. Whilst having been on many tours around the world, this is the first one where we have been handed a substantial complimentary tour guide (produced by Jonathan) at the end and where prizes have been handed out along the way.
Would recommend this tour to enthusiasts who love to know more about the history of Birmingham. Jonathan is very knowledgeable and energetic. Enjoyed the tour very much.
We have just finished the Digbeth heritage walk with Jonathan and it was brilliant. We had headphones so we could hear him all the time and he was so interesting and informative - encouraging questions and always knowing the answers. Funny and lively - totally recommend.. Thanks Jonathan
Very informative and enjoyable experience with Jonathan as our guide. His knowledge of the area was extensive, and his manner and sense of humour made our 2 hours most enjoyable. We learned so much. Really liked how Jonathan welcomed any questions we had and took the time to give considered answers from his vast knowledge and experience of the area. I’d strongly recommend this your any visitor who has a couple of hours to spare and would like to know about the past, present, and potential future of the Digbeth area.
I was like a bull at a gate when I saw this tour (pun intended). Seriously though, it was great and such good value for money! I learnt so much on it. I had no idea that Birmingham was the no.1 city in the UK for public art, for instance. What's interesting though is that even though I'm Australian there were so many locals from Brum and the area on it. In addition to showing us all the sites, we got a free book and Jonathan also went out of his way to recommend me a great spot for me to have lunch at, at the university. Thanks so much. Would recommend to any one going to Birmingham or any one already there any time! I also did the Canals & Victorians to Today’s City, which I'd also recommend.
Many thanks to Jonathan Berg for the Birmingham walking tour. It was a nice walk to learn some of the Birmingham history/places and life. Jonathan's book is a good representation of Birmingham with lovely pics and information, thanks Jonathan. This tour operator supports a charity that helps the homeless who are many in Birmingham, well done!
