As a part if the AFOL community I feel super lucky to have this amazing store on my doorstep. In all the years we have lived in Birmingham we did not know Lego had a store in the Bullring! We always went in using the other entrance. Recommended to us so we went to buy a teacher a gift. Staff were so warm and welcoming and chatty. Admired my son’s T-shirt and conversations flowed. We were able to buy the item needed (salt and pepper shakers) and then made a bespoke Lego character for the teacher. Staff were always helpful and offered assistance and checked in with us. Clean store with loads of wow moments and a lot of items which are admired and on the to buy list. Really made buying a teacher a thank you gift a super special and memorable day out. So pleased and can not wait to return !

First time visiting this store with my 11 year old son… he loved the variety and cannot wait to return to buy his next items. Not open. While on website says 9:30am. Several people outside door and we can’t seem to see anyone inside nor no one answers the phone.
About 4 of us standing tried calling but nothing.
Bad bad customer service.
Someone inside should at least come to door and let customers know what’s going on.
As I wrote this more and more people show up to try to get in.

Staff here are racist and let me tell you why as a black man I came into this store with my two children and from the moment I walked in I was being followed from isle to to isle by the same person. Now as myself and the kids got to the till the manager stood at the door staring and so I placed the item on the till only to be served by the same guy who had seemingly been following us. Now here’s the good part it can be a busy store and most certainly around castle vale there are thief’s who actually look like thieves!!! Myself and my kids went for an experience which was nothing like on to for them which every child wants and of course a toy! So I got served rudely by the staff with no customer service and the manager then walked off! What is even more crazy I complained to the head department who replied with a petty response so I sent another email stating racial equality is not apparent in your store and what will they do to restore my kids experience. It is now 2 months later and still no response!! Not only is this upsetting but to know things like this get brushed aside now wonder this country is not moving forward or getting any better!

A good range of equipment at the store, but we were blown away by the great customer service we received from Della, she was so patient with us and knowledgeable, explaining from the different variety strollers to cotts, we left feeling comfortable in what we needed and have made a brief list for our return…..Thank you Della

16/07/24 Just an update we did return and purchased, Cot, moses basket, travel system all bedding, bath. So if you don’t want to waste any time Smyths is the ideal choice, Della was superb as usual

Went in to by our daughter who’s almost 3 a bike she’s every comfortable with a 14’’ but checked out a 16’’ first one staff member working in that department came over to us and we could smell the alcohol from his breath not professional at all and wouldn’t expect that at a Children store , he put so much pressure on us to try and get the smallest bike and not a14’’ I originally wanted, he was so rude to us ,so arrogant ,rolling his eyes shaking his head at us because I didn’t want to choose a smaller Bike. He made me and my partner feel uncomfortable so we headed to find another worker who came to assist us who was really helpful and made us feel valued and not like we was trash by the other guy . He then went over to the tills and informed to guy with no uniform on which I thought was a manager but seemed like he wasn’t fazed at all . People like that shouldn’t be working where kids will be coming if they are not happy to help or to talk politely to customers will never ever be returning. I went into the store to buy a bear for my daughter. I had a £5 pound off coupon and a £10 pound voucher. After my daughter had built her bear and did the heart ceremony (that was amazing and that member of staff was unbelievably nice) I was told (very rudely) that the coupon and voucher wouldn’t be accepted and that there was ‘loads of signs’ to explain that. The 2 signs were tiny (and pointed out in an extremely condescending way by the member of staff) and not in prominent places at all. Obviously I was going to buy the bear regardless but when it should have been £15 rather than the £30 I paid it was very annoying. I was even more annoyed when I got back to our accommodation and checked the website to see that the bear I had bought should have been reduced to £17. While I understand it’s not a fully fledged store it should be advertised that they will rip you off because they are in a high end store. Having to pay extra didn’t annoy me as much as the terrible customer service. The lady working there should never work in customer services because she has a terrible attitude and no personal skills.

Amazing. Simply Amazing. I was overjoyed at how patient the woman was who helped us, she was made the whole experience such a happy one. We just popped in to have a quick look at the range of teddies but when my son went and watched someone “build-a-bear” themselves, he simply couldn’t resist. We didn’t feel rushed and didn’t feel pressured to buy all the extras or anything like that. But I do wish we could go back and do it all again, because it was such a magical experience for my boy.

Never been to build a bear before…..was an ace experience! The staff totally made it! I wished the had remembered their names!! (Darren maybe?) Was at the entrance to meet us and totally sold the customer experience to me and my little niece. He made it so amazing! So helpful!!! Customer journey was good going onto the stuffing machine with a lovely gentleman (as pictured) he was ace too! The journey very much fell off a cliff after that but hey cant have it all! The guys at the start were amazing! It was special!

A lovely toy store remiscent of my childhood. The toys are different than they were when I was a child but there is lots here to choose from for today’s youth. There is a wide variety of games and puzzles as well as educational toys. Of course they are a great place to go for RC cars and trains. They are pricey because of the area of town they are in, but everything is too quality

The store truly is a treasure frozen in time. I received the “Polar Express” Lionel Train Set almost two Christmas seasons ago and I can’t wait to take it out each time. Their HO selection is very good, along with the Lionel too. It is really a treat to walk through and find something that makes you feel like a kid again.

I understand supporting local businesses but I feel a bit robbed. Spent over 300 dollars to get my vehicle up and running and fixed and they still haven’t really fixed my car after the many parts they told me to buy and they also repaired and installed parts incorrectly. If half the stuff was returnable it would be great but it’s not and I feel a little token advantage of. The picture is of the gear on my traxxas slash they put on backwards and clearly didn’t tighten it at all since it came loose as soon as I turned my car on. Outside of that they were friendly as a staff and store decently stocked.

Had an amazing Experience with Evan!

I went into the Warhammer shop as I already play Age of Sigmar but friends were asking me to get into Warhammer 40k. I only knew a little about 40k but after leaving I was pumped and ready to dive into more research.

I spoke to Evan in the shop and he was so good! He didn’t try any soft sales techniques and genuinely seemed like he was happy I was asking questions about the game (honestly the best way of getting people into the hobby) he spent time with me explaining EACH faction in detail, answering any questions I had and even told me how the factions played/lore behind them.

Before I left he offered me a taster game to show how the mechanics worked and it was great! I had a blast, I will definitely be back to pick up a whole army once I figure out if I want to play either Orks, Sister of Battle or Chaos Demons.

There are construction works currently underway outside and around The Works, so it is easy to miss. However it is a little treasure trove of goodies, for kids and crafters alike. There were plenty of books, at very good prices, and crafting ideas to choose from.

We went close to closing time however the staff were patient and kind.

I’d like to visit again to have a proper browse in the future.

I asked the lad at the till what the returns policy was before buying something I was told 30 days to return the item so I bought it and took it home to realise it’s faulty, took it back and was told no fault (was basically called a liar) and was told no return as its been opened, even though I wasn’t told this the day before by the staff member. Manager didn’t care she just kept saying it’s your policy. She also said all staff are trained in returns policy but clearly not!!! Stay well away!!!

Nice big store and plenty of parking with reasonable size bays. Never seems too busy when I’ve been and always been a good experience. Can be expensive experience but that’s your fault for having kids 🙂
Good store and a few places to eat nearby if you work up an appetite and have any money left.

Brought a ball pit for our 10month old. Within 10min knew that this product is very poorly constructed.
I wanted to take it back due to a waste of £45 on an inferior product. (Was told no on account of health & hygiene. Which on one level I understand) 2nd that this product had never been brought back before. (This isn’t my problem)
A mental note. If it turns out the expensive product you have brought your child is poorly constructed resulting in a 10 month old dismantling it, and you as a parent make the decision to return.
At Smyths you’re not allowed to return it & get your money back. Pathetic policy.
All Amazon from now on or a toy store putting parents 1st.
10 months old and will never be back at Smyths on principal. R.I.P Smyths.
