The pool was okay, nothing to be excited about. The floats were old, with bite marks in. The tipping buckets or tap features weren’t even on.
My son was very excited about the water slide, which was the best feature of the place. However he is nearly 7, and couldn’t even go on by himself leading me to hurt my foot when i landed in the water.
However, the wave machine wasn’t working and they even did the countdown which left my son feeling upset and disappointed.
Staff weren’t friendly, and lifeguards were constantly blowing their whistles at nothing. My son can swim, and was told off for not being in close range of me.
The changing rooms were chaos! Everyone was shouting, mess everywhere and general feelings of anxiety being in there.

Shak on reception was so helpful when myself and my sister had accidentally booked the wrong swimming session without knowing. He was able to sort out our issues in no time. He was kind, friendly and really had a great attitude to helping us as well as anyone else who came in. He is now our go-to guy. We had a lovely conversation with him & I know any future issues – he will definitely be able to sort them. He really loves working to help his community & it’s so rare to see people loving their job & community with such care and consideration. The centre has really good facilities & although you have to book on for any session, it is entirely possible you just have to be super quick about it. Can’t say much else. It’s fantastic & I will continue going.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Qasim Ali” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJEnllHH04CmZ4x7vh8CwxQrXF1Fcjzcpt-9QNlBFDys20ktA=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]I had an exceptional experience from Shak From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. While this gym is smaller, they recently expanded and upgraded all of the equipment, they also have a sauna/steam room and it’s very well-maintained. They offer a variety of ladies-only classes throughout the day – in the mornings, afternoons and evenings – with highly skilled instructors. I also appreciate the gym’s convenient operating hours.
The staff here are approachable, with strong values and ethics and the management team is professional and readily available to address any queries. They genuinely care about you and value you as a customer-unlike the other gym, where concerns are dismissed outright. Any complaints here are taken seriously and handled appropriately, with clear procedures in place.
This gym is undoubtedly the safer choice, especially for women seeking a secure, safe and welcoming environment where you won’t be disrespected. There is a supportive community atmosphere here which is particularly beneficial for those who prioritise mental well-being as part of their fitness routine.
The establishment shows great respect for the culture and beliefs of its clientele. Males are strictly prohibited from entering the female-only areas, maintaining a comfortable and private environment for women. In rare emergencies where male staff presence is required, a clear announcement is made in advance, giving women enough time to cover up or leave the area for a few minutes.
I’ve only experienced this once during my visits, and they went above and beyond to ensure everyone was informed. Female staff members personally entered the ladies gym to notify individuals, ensuring that even those with headphones were aware. This level of attentiveness is different from the other gym where staff covered themselves up but fail to inform their customers when males were entering the gym which was shocking.
The recent equipment upgrades are fantastic and I hope to see the ladies gym expand even further in the future to accommodate the growing number of women who enjoy using this facility.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Younis Abdulla” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJWlwyd5CI56QCD-LOn8bgvju2lpsZxl8O1ZqlrcqSKmJ0jfw=s120-c-rp-mo-ba5-br100″]Amazing friendly staff. Stechford Leisure Centre offers a well-maintained environment for fitness enthusiasts and families alike. The swimming pool is clean, and the facilities are generally in good condition, ensuring a pleasant experience for those looking to swim or work out. Friendly staff members contribute positively to the atmosphere.
However, there are areas for improvement, particularly regarding cleanliness in changing rooms and the need for more seating in communal areas. Addressing these concerns would enhance the overall experience for users and make it an even better choice for leisure activities.

The pool is clean and the changing rooms mostly clean. The showers, lockers all work fine as far as i can tell. If you email for info, they will reply but the email address doesn’t accept responses back. Desk staff have been approachable, and lifeguards pay attention to what’s going on. Just wish there were still separate sex changing rooms and some seats by the hairdryers – lots of people swim for exercise because they can’t stand for long.
Overall good.

Could do with more seating in the main entrance especially when childrens swim classes are on.
Have renovated it but the upkeep is poor. Changing rooms are not cleaned or wiped down. Visible dust on doors and side panels of the changing rooms.
Basic cleanliness is lacking and should be priority especially with so many childrens classes running[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Nico Slater” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjXY-ENJZNOkfLmuDMLSkHNmH95BT5mHCueUrvLLPltrcGKzfS-v=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]It’s a good leisure Center but the car park is way to small, there are people parking on the zebra crossing the double yellow lines and double parking because there is nowhere else to park!
Not sure if the land to the left is allocated for something else but if not the cat park should be extended because we pay enough per month to pay for it , to be honest the car park should have been made bigger to begin with .
The gym needs a bit of an upgrade with some new machines as well but the most importantly thing is that parking .[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Adnan Younas” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocK8i9kVUKveMBWKfSGQ4lnRFsCfNW8j91BibZsTOVViZvrjCQ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba5-br100″]Visited this afternoon around 13:30.. lady on the desk was not welcoming nor helpful, rather answered my questions sarcastically quick as though she wanted me to just leave, to enable her to continue gossiping with the wheelchaired gentleman.
I later returned around 16:00, with the same documents to try and register for the second time. Had no issues this time and was done within a few minutes.
Leaves me a little undecided whether I want this to become my new gym with friends and swim baths with my kids.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”RD McGuigan” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocL_FmdzNycHsSWKtYzVR27X_2RK6ew55k6EYSdvhfAZ7kanOwZy=s120-c-rp-mo-ba2-br100″]The negative experience starts the moment you walk through the door. Most of the reception staff are rude and unhelpful. Once you get to the gym you’re met with a filthy gym with lazy staff. In the gym area staff either hideaway or sit on a stool disengaged.
People in the gym never put the equipment away and they throw the weights down or constantly bang them to draw attention to themselves. This is never challenged but why would people respect the gym when the staff don’t?!?
Weights are never put away properly and you’ll often have to go on a hunt for the weights you need. I have only ever seen one person who works in the gym tidy up. Broken equipment is left out for customers to use it when it’s removed it never appears again…….
The squat racks have bolts that are coming lose; the maintenance in the gym is very poor and an accident waiting to happen.
Staff stand round talking to each other and act unprofessional…….don’t waste your time…..there are cheaper options in the area![/su_testimonial] View all reviews

Upon arrival very rarely is one greeted as either the staff is too busy chatting with each other or just cant be bothered to look up.
Secondly when complaining that the door to the ladies gym will not open not one staff member actually got up to look at it and offer a solution to get it to work leaving so many people unable to access the room.
The water leaking from studio 1 seems to be a common occurence to which you dont have an eta as to when you will fix it so your customers who still have to pay full price have to navigate between water buckets and water dripping during classes which poses a serious health and safety issue should an injury occur from a fall.
Lastly it would have been so amazing if there would be more variety in the classes offered rsther than most of them being always body pump, core blast and body combat. Whilst I appreciate your other centres offer body attack more than once a week as well as step & hit it would be lovely if your centre could as well and incorporate more daytime cardio sessions within your facilities rather than having to spend extra time and petrol on top of the monthly contract to travel elsewhere.
Appreciate if you have read this to the end and if you can find solutions to the above.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Aden Coley” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjXwsDL0VV_KttUvHZ5nlP93mLlNT5z-GeuM0LZCTbP_ZNJk6OQ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba3-br100″]They have a new refurbished gym which is amazing, they also have a women’s only section as well. Attended this gym for several years, taking my eldest kid swimming here. I have always taken my other child who is autistic with me and he plays on a device that helps keep him calm & stops him becoming overwhelmed from busy environments. The staff have always understood that and been accommodating but recently the new manager told me we could not take the device by poolside. I explained to him the device does not have a camera on it and how it helps my son’s behaviour but he was not interested. He told me to give my son something different to entertain him – Parents of SEND kids will know how frustrating this is, as if I have not tried different methods. He then goes ahead and tells me to sit somewhere else.
After much back & forth, I was able to take the device with me, but like anyone else, I was left reeling at the blatant ignorance & lack of understanding. Thanks for making me uncomfortable!
I get the need to ensure no one is taking photos but this device does not record / take photos. This is meant to be an inclusive gym but it is clear the Manager does not have an understanding of Autism (a very common condition in the UK) and I question what training is provided to people in management at this gym to help make this a welcoming environment for all.
I am not expecting anything to come off this but if you have a child with SEND, I doubt this is a place to bring them. I have also in the past called for swimming lessons for my son & was told they could not cater for him.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Joanne Morton (Bella)” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocINjt3VA9GYkjYWKxQX8qU1dyXNmwjap01L_VKr_4KoPYJ1Vg=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Shocking! She has spina bifida so this is a disabled person’s and careers review.
The disabled changing room is excellent. They have a disabled shower with chair, toilet with hand rails. They allow you to keep the key so you can keep your stuff in there while swimming or use a locker.
No ones else is able to access the disabled changing rooms so you know you will get 1 without waiting.
My only criticism is the disabled chairs in the changing room. You can fold them up when not in use but if you have someone who is incontinent and needs nappies/pads they are not able to lie down for you to change their pads so trying to do that in a sitting position on a small disabled chair is challenging if the disabled person can’t help with being able to move or weight bare. It would be great if the chairs was benches. The wheelchair lift into the pool is great and they have a special wheelchair for the user to transfer into from their own chair. But for the gym they need to atleast extend its opening time, 9pm on a weekday is too little and it should be extended by 2 or more hours and 5pm on a weekend is too early especially for someone who is busy and can’t go that early. so the gym should increase the opening times by a few more hours.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Vane C” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjUXDx94GAPcOoDfzDUxshPjhcG-yVC0lhqznB5JiTL56KeEzrMU=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]The yoga class with Hubert is marvellous. The gym leaves something to be desired. The machines are new, but they should have more than one of the most popular machines (leg press, smith, extension chair). There are no calf machines, which makes the leg press even more popular. They also don’t have repeated dumbbells for the most commonly used ones. The only time I’ve identified as being possible to train without having to wait too long for the machines and disrupting the whole workout is 6.30am and then 11am. The other times are very busy and having to wait cools the body down and puts a stop to the workout.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”R44″ photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocJ-_dXVsAqj8wB9oFOHpcV9kszaTtMColSAQMdoAlZNHOIGyA=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Group swimming lessons are fantastic here for our daughter from 4-6yrs in the kids pool. Keiran and Alex are both really good instructors. Keiran has been brilliant and a credit to the instructor team. Nice swimming pool and pleasant staff.
They need to sort out the check in system which is slow and frequently malfunctions. Lately staff have been late to open the building in the morning which is frustrating for people who have a tight schedule e.g. with getting to work.
Overall adequate with the potential to be good.[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

The complex is pretty new. There is a good seating area for swimmers. There is a boom in the middle of the pool which allows for a separate warm up pool in addition to the competition pool.
The UoB swimming society do a great job at putting events on. There are some fantastic swimmers within their ranks. The whole gala was friendly and competitive and us masters were made to feel welcome and a part of the community.
There is a sauna for swimmers use by the poolside. However, I did not avail of this facility.
The electronic timing and scoreboard system is amongst the best I’ve seen at any leisure centre around the country and the pool has backstroke wedges, for those who are that way inclined.
The pool and centre is basically excellent. However, it has missed out on a fifth star, as I understand due to a quirk in its construction, the whole pool is just short of 50 metres in length, meaning that it cannot host long course competitions.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Roo Hocking” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjXEhqsfM92zQ8LEuQnSGlfD2yhGO7YiXVIJRrW09FiXqsC4m748NA=s120-c-rp-mo-ba3-br100″]New, clean, well-equipped sports and fitness centre with gym, pool, sauna, fitness halls and squash courts. The facilities are great, although sometimes it helps to find a time when the students are busy as it can get pretty packed in the pool and sauna, and they are kind of in their own social world of sports club chat, which is slightly strange as a member of the public.
Fitness halls do all the Les Mills classes as well as yoga, weights conditioning and Pilates. The long opening hours are a big plus, too.
Dry changing rooms are good, wet changing rooms are fairly gross. Wet changing room also only has push button showers which go off in 5 seconds, so they obviously don’t want you to have a proper shower there.
Gym gets busy with people doing weights, so again I avoid peak times.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Ziyad” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjUtIpR8kRcjJQB8O4DGpHEgNjW5vdcyKrOy0WpP4a67ZXQJGhsz=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]Quality of equipment and cleanliness of fitness suite are great here. Generally very good facilities. I find the sauna to be quite small though considering the size of the centre. Parking for community members is useful and included, which is good. The swipe access is a bit of a pain; tapping would be so much easier. The car park should have at least a few charging spots at the very least. Membership for off peak is reasonable but can get very crowded in the evenings. Most maintenance work will happen in off peak times so you get even more restricted access than what you pay for.
Overall a good place for fitness but they could definitely up their game. Few more improvements are required to make this 5 star but sadly Birmingham fitness options are limited. They should offer NHS discounts also when you’re around the corner from the QE.
Update:
Dropped a star due to really poor customer service not on site. I’ve emailed regarding some issues (steam room closed for weeks, changing opening times) and it’s so poorly received. Huge shame.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Aaron Hobday” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWJIBOBd4PFgQJpfBGldKZ3BMWBHREJ3b888urail_I93YWrtbg=s120-c-rp-mo-ba4-br100″]I’ve been a member of this gym since May having paid for a year’s membership upfront, which I now regret. Unfortunately, my experience has been quite disappointing. The gym’s facilities are excellent, don’t get me wrong. However, it is consistently overcrowded from 4pm, which makes it very difficult to use the equipment without extended wait times. Additionally, finding an available locker is a challenge, as they are almost always fully occupied. I had high hopes when I joined, but the overcrowding and lack of access to facilities have made it difficult to fully use my membership and train effectively. I would recommend considering other options if you’re looking for a more accessible gym experience.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Lincoln Fan” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocI13Wc2iCLO-pEMLSeKbY96yexqXRE_5dEwYhmppgEEWEInPw=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Goodness, it’s been just over 4 years since I joined UoB Fitness as a community member.
While the membership fees look pricey when compared to other gyms or fitness centres, this is not just another gym or sport centre, dare I say, this is more like a sports performance centre that is open to the local community. The closest comparison is the nearby The Edgbaston Priory Club which is a lot dearer.
Even though UoB Fitness opened back in 2017, the facility has been maintained well and still feels new. It is a joy to see so much passion and energy by the friendly staff and other members every time I visit.
Laser focusing in on the activities I often do at UoB Fitness.
Difficult to find a better squash court around Birmingham than here (be great if there are social squash sessions for community members like for Badminton).
Gym space is inspirational, tidy, clean, and importantly, a safe and welcoming space unlike some other gyms after certain hours (I won’t mention any names).
The free classes that came with membership is a game changer as it allowed me out try out difference classes before deciding which one I wanted to pursue, still haven’t pluck up the courage to try out RPM even after all these years.
The 50m swimming pool is never too busy, a huge thank you to the teaching staff for helping me to level up my swimming ability and confidence to swim in open water.
I would also like to call out the App, it makes the whole booking for classes and courts seamless.
Overall, I dare say without UoB Fitness, I wouldn’t have been able to reach my fitness goal and sustain it as part of a healthy lifestyle, a huge thanks.[/su_testimonial] View all reviews

I wanted to share my recent experience with the gym, hoping it reaches the owners because I believe this issue deserves attention.
Two months ago, I went on holiday and was advised to put my membership on hold to avoid charges while I was away. However, despite following all the necessary steps, I noticed that the gym continued to deduct payments from my account. This has caused significant frustration and disappointment.
I reached out to the reception for assistance, but unfortunately, I didn’t receive the help I needed. It feels disheartening to be in this situation, and I’m left feeling as though I’ve been taken advantage of. Due to this experience, I’m seriously considering canceling my membership and looking for a gym that values its customers’ concerns.
I hope the owners take this feedback seriously and look into improving the process for handling membership holds, as well as enhancing customer service training for the staff. I genuinely believe in the potential of this gym, but I need to see accountability and support in situations like mine.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Gunter Hunter” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWfwqiYntS4pSw_aNEvOjVjfDFOownU3M3H7xSg5VLhpZFm3kQ=s120-c-rp-mo-ba2-br100″]I had the most unsettling experience at this establishment. While at the swimming pool, I witnessed something diabolical, a rat, and not just one! It appeared to be a mother rat training her baby rats to swim. Yes, you read that right a rat swimming lesson in plain sight.
Naturally, I tried to alert the staff to this horrifying situation. Unfortunately, the staff who were notably chubby and more focused on eating than doing their jobs completely ignored my concerns. Not only did they dismiss me, but they also rolled their eyes in what I can only describe as sheer indifference.
This level of unprofessionalism and lack of basic hygiene standards is unacceptable. A rat infestation in a swimming pool is bad enough, but being met with rudeness and apathy from the staff made the experience even worse.
Avoid this place at all costs. I wouldn’t trust them to handle even the most basic customer concerns, let alone a health hazard of this magnitude. Diabolical, indeed.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Shakeel Ali” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocIRg2yDJd8n5OQiwmwKbNTz-mDPIXP6fD8VSoVtCXKoJbr2Yg=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]The staff attitude of majority is not bad. However I feel tension In this gym environment. People constantly looking at you. A group in one corner and another on one . Arguments far too many as I have seen in the gym. Many occasions police have been called. Management do a good job overall trying to run it smoothly. I have to say some people who train in the gym are there to cause problems. It like we are looking for trouble. In addition some staff are racist (prejudice) towards people of colour. Making a judgment but not correct at all. Privilege and supremacy by class groups.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Khushi Gogiya” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a/ACg8ocIqqFNwR_Xs5lM8FYyEVY_X1-5cf61KgqWZBpRyD1HpjpNxYA=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]Really bad experience. There reception staff don’t know how to treat. There is a manager he is discussing. If he started argue then he can take more then 1 hour. He spoiled our days. Don’t know how to treat a women. They don’t have hygienic. Steam room they don’t clean there is bundle of longs hair on the floor. When we request to clean then they said we have our schedule.
Really suggest don’t join.[/su_testimonial][su_testimonial name=”Eletro Wave” photo=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjUQcvkx0sRhdiwvmkAfkHBS97XLxNEsCzvgK8_01NLS6Lo2Ckk=s120-c-rp-mo-br100″]I’m here to protest. This man, who trains at the gym, has approached me twice now, making me extremely uncomfortable. When my husband confronted him about it, instead of apologising, he had the audacity to say, “I talk to whoever I want, and I don’t care what you think. In my country, it’s normal to talk to women.” This shows an absolute lack of respect and basic decency, with no willingness to take responsibility for his actions.
Unfortunately, individuals as ignorant and disrespectful as this exist, and it’s shocking that nothing has been done about it. The gym must take action to address this behaviour.
I’ve also filed a formal complaint with the police regarding this incident before something more serious happens. Take this matter seriously, or more people will be put at risk!
On top of that, the lack of full CCTV coverage throughout the gym is a huge safety concern for women. This needs to change—immediately. (Photo attached below for reference.)[/su_testimonial] View all reviews
